WORSHOP
8 MAY 2024, Wednesday | 6:30 - 8:30 PM
Are you a citizen of India?
Are you a doctor, police person, lawyer, teacher, parent,
uncle, aunt, sibling, relative, or just a neighbor?

If you find yourself fitting in such roles then you are a

significant adult and an important stakeholder in a
child’s life. To curb Child Sexual Abuse and effectively
support and care for survivors, we need commitment
from all stakeholders who are responsible for the health
and safety of the children.

Child Sexual Abuse can create an impact which is often

long lasting and manifests during different stages of an
individual’s life in the form of triggers, harming the
overall wellbeing of the child in every way, it is critical for
the significant others in a child’s life like parents,
teachers and community members to protect and
provide safe spaces for their growth and development.

As part of the Rakshin Project we aspire to create a

brigade of active citizens who take responsibility to Stop
Child Sexual Abuse and Make Each Space a Safe Space
for a child.

“Whilst child abuse may be committed behind close doors,

it should never be swept under the carpet.”

THE
PROBLEM
Violence affects the lives of upto 1 billion children, with long-
lasting and costly emotional, social and economic
consequences. Globally, it is estimated that one out of two
children aged 2–17 years experience some form of violence
each year, and 120 million girls are estimated to have
suffered some form of forced sexual contact before the age
of 20 years.

While we can infer from the data available that child sexual
abuse is rampant, still it is swept under the carpet because of
the barriers of denial, silence, shame and stigma associated
with it.
