General Information
This document describes JMEX's application of the ANSI X12 transaction set 856 Advance
Shipping Notice. This transaction set provides the contents of a shipment of goods as well as
additional information relating to the shipment, such as order information, product description,
physical characteristics, type of packaging, marking, carrier information and configuration of goods
within the transportation equipment.

The specification offers a detailed description of those data elements which will be used in
this transaction.

The 856 transaction is used by JMEX for the shipping notice. The transaction identifies for
JMEX list the contents of a shipment of goods as well as additional information related to the
shipment, such as order information, product description, physical characteristics, type of
packaging, markings, carrier information, and configuration of goods within the transportation
equipment.
