It’s a procedure by which the
cleanliness of the body of the baby is
performed. Baby bathing is an excellent
opportunity for both mother and nurse
to observe the baby for any abnormality
Objectives
 To remove the dirt from the body
 To stimulate circulation
 To aid in elimination of waste
products through the skin
 To observe for any abnormality
 To teach desirable hygienic
measures to the mother
Points to remember
 Maintain room temperature a
little higher side
 Prevent the child from chill and
draught
 Avoid giving bath to very sick
baby
 Never leave the baby alone
 Never use the soap on eyes
 Prevent entry of water into ears
while giving bath to baby
 Pay special attention to skin
folds
 Wash the feet properly before
 Do not apply talc powder, kajal
to the baby
 Ideal time for giving bath is in
the morning before giving
second feed to the baby to avoid
vomiting
 Always wash and dry the
baby’s head before proceeding
further
 If family is ignorant about baby

Steps of the Procedure
 Select a place in the house to
give bath which should be away

 Spread a newspaper and keep

 Check if the baby has passed

observe for any abnormality

indicated
