Water Injustices
Water Injustices
The indigenous communities of Canada have been facing many challenges with regards to water.

From contaminated water, which poses significant health risks due to bacteria, parasites, and heavy

metals, to water shortages, where there isn't enough water available for everyday needs like drinking,

cooking, and bathing. These issues have persisted for years, despite Canada's abundance of

freshwater. They not only affect the health and well being of Indigenous peoples but also delay their

ability to thrive and maintain traditional ways of life. It's a critical issue that requires urgent attention

and action to ensure all Indigenous communities have access to clean and safe water.
Water Injustices: Real-Life Examples

Here are some examples of these issues occurring in the past year:

● Since July 17 2023, Bear River First Nation has a “boil water advisory”

● Since February 27, 2024, Munsee-Delaware Nation has a “do not consume advisory”
