The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) releases the CLAT syllabus 2025 along with the
admission notification. The CLAT exam syllabus 2025 for 5-year LLB includes topics such as general
knowledge, current affairs, legal reasoning, logical reasoning, math and English whereas, the CLAT
LLM syllabus covers LLB subjects. There will be a total of 120 questions in CLAT 2025 each carrying
one mark. Candidates preparing for CLAT 2025 must go through its syllabus to know about the topics
they need to study.

Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is conducted for both undergraduate and postgraduate
programmes. A total of 25 national law universities (NLUs) accept CLAT scores for UG and PG

CLAT 2025 Syllabus for 5-Year LLB

The UG-CLAT which is conducted for Class 12th students tests the candidate's basic skills of fast
reading and ability to think and analyse the texts. According to various CLAT experts, successful
candidates are generally very good at reading and understanding paragraphs that may or may not
contain legal terminologies.

Overall, the CLAT exam syllabus 2025 is divided into five different sections, that carry different
weightages. Sections like English comprehension and legal reasoning are considered the most
important ones and carry significant weightage whereas, CLAT maths carries only around 10%

The five subjects of the UG CLAT 2025 syllabus test some common and some subject-specific skills.
While the common skills are reading, critical thinking and analytical skills, the subject-specific skills

CLAT 2025 Syllabus for English Language and Comprehension

The CLAT English section is primarily a test of a candidate’s language skills — reading,
comprehension, and grammar. The questions are asked from six to seven passages of around 450
words each. Each passage is followed by a series of multiple-choice type questions. Students have to
read the passages and answer the underlying questions accordingly.

CLAT Syllabus 2025 for General Knowledge and Current Affairs

CLAT GK and current affairs will have 25% of the questions, making it one of the most important
sections in the question paper. The CLAT general knowledge largely remains static and tests the basic
knowledge of candidates in subjects such as history, economics, political science, and technology.
Whereas, CLAT current affairs will be based on topics of national and international importance that

CLAT Legal Reasoning Syllabus 2025

The legal reasoning for CLAT 2025 will have a weightage of around 25% (28-32 questions). Although
prior knowledge of law is not required for CLAT 2025, some level of familiarity with the subject and
current legal affairs will help the candidates answer questions. In this regard, the consortium
mentions that candidates will benefit from general awareness of current legal and moral issues while
applying general principles or propositions in various fact scenarios.

The CLAT legal reasoning questions will be drawn from six to seven passages of 450 words each.
These passages will contain various fact situations or scenarios with legal matters, public policy
questions or moral philosophical enquiries. Each passage will be followed by a series of multiple-
choice questions that will require the candidate to:

• Identify and infer the rules and arguments in the passage

• Apply such rules and principles in various fact scenarios

• Demonstrate how change in such rules/principles affects their application

CLAT Logical Reasoning Syllabus 2025

With 20% weightage in the CLAT question paper, the legal reasoning section attempts to test the
reasoning of candidates. Most questions in CLAT logical reasoning follow a similar paragraph pattern
containing statements, arguments and facts. The language and tone of the passages can be tricky
with the use of words like “And/Or, Where/There, All/Some” etc. Additionally, this section will have
arguments and patterns which candidates will have to use to draw relationships or apply those
arguments in different situations.

CLAT Maths Syllabus 2025

Although CLAT 2025 maths carries only 10% weightage, it is considered a game changer due to its
very factual answer options. However, unlike general maths, CLAT maths will not have
straightforward problems. Questions in CLAT maths will be framed from a short of facts, conditions,
data, graphs or textual representations containing numerical information. Candidates will have to
study that information before answering the underlying questions. While gathering and processing
such numerical information may consume some time, the skills tests are basic to mathematics only.

The CLAT syllabus 2025 is indeed a lengthy one. As a result, the CLAT question papers are also very
lengthy, requiring students to read around 20,000 words and answer the questions within 120
minutes. Candidates preparing for UG-CLAT 2024 are advised to practice sample questions

CLAT LLM Syllabus 2025

As mentioned above, the CLAT 2025 LLM syllabus contains subjects of the LLB programme. The
questions are asked in similar comprehension passage formats. However, questions are framed
around specific topics of law and current legal affairs. All of the questions asked in CLAT LLM 2025
will be objective-type questions. There will be no essay or descriptive section. The topics covered in

How to Prepare for CLAT 2025?

CLAT is one of the toughest law entrance exams in India and a highly competitive one. Most of the
sections in CLAT 2025 focus on high-level reading and comprehension which can not be developed
overnight. Candidates should give at least six to eight months for CLAT preparation and deal with
each subject in a dedicated manner. After covering the essential topics, candidates should invest
enough time in solving the previous year's papers and sample papers to fine-tune their preparation
for maximum results.

Question: Does CLAT syllabus change every year?

Answer:

No. CLAT syllabus largely remains the same. The last major changes in the CLAT syllabus were
announced in 2019. However, to make the CLAT question paper more student-friendly, changes in
the pattern are introduced regularly. For example, last year the total number of questions in CLAT
was reduced from 150 to 120 and the comprehension paragraphs had relatively easier tone and
language compared to its previous versions.

Answer:
CLAT subjects include general knowledge, current affairs, English language, legal reasoning, logical
reasoning and maths. A total of 120 questions are asked from these subjects.

Question: Will CLAT 2025 be hard?

Answer:

CLAT is a moderately difficult exam. The difficulty level of CLAT 2025 will be of Class 12th standard.
The CLAT maths will have a difficulty of Class 10th standard.
