CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION
Introduction
“The discovery of agricultural is first big step toward a civilized life.” Is a famous quote by
Arthur Keith? This emphasizes that the agriculture plays a vital role in the economy of every
nation. Since the dawn of history agriculture has been one of the significant earnings of
producing food for human utilization. Today more and more lands are being developed for the
production of a large variety of crops.
The field of agriculture involves various operations that require handling of heavy materials. For
example, in manual plugging, farmers make use of heavy plugging machines. Additionally,
while watering the crops farmers still follow the traditional approach of carrying heavy water
pipes. These operations are dull, repetitive, or require strength and skill for the workers

The potential benefits of advice agricultural include increased productivity, increased

sustainability of crop, and enhanced operational safety. Additionally, the rapid advancements in
electronics, computers, and computing technologies have inspired renewed interest in the
development of vehicle guidance systems. Various guidance technologies, including mechanical
guidance, optical guidance, radio navigation, and ultrasonic guidance, have been investigated

The Statistical data includes farmers who were asked whether or not they have incurred unusual
high rainfall events, such as storm or heaving down pour. Some 58 percent said they did.
Technically, in machine learning the likelihood of reporting a storm is correlated with treatment
in the (Instrumental Variable) IV and heterogeneous effect regressions: which gives up: farmers
a more likely report of incurring a storm. Farmers who had received regular weather information
became more aware of unusual rainfall events, which became more likely to report them to
enumerators. The reports stated whether the farmers receiving were able to reduce output loss or
increase output with the storm.
1.1 Background of proposal
In Ethiopia, Agriculture is believed as a major occupation for a most part of population. Most
rural population depends upon agriculture or farming as their important occupation. The system
offers farmers an easy and effective means of using their various farming information from a
governmental organization like federal agricultural minster and other’s. The system makes use of
the internet to enable interface each other’s and the farmers get full service from federal
agricultural minster.

1.2 Statement of Problem

Statement of problem means: - what is the main case we have study this proposal, how we solve
the community problem in our proposal. It is the problems of the community.
As we know today many farmers went to get the full information about their methods of farming
system and details about the crops from agricultural minister. But they have not made that ways.
The case is there is no contact system like web or android apps to advice farmers.

We thought that is better to get that service from agricultural minister. Everything should have
been better to convert from the backward manual system to technological ways. Now the
requirements of farmers will satisfy!

1.3 Objectives
The objective of this project was categorized as the general objective and specific objective
discussed as follows

1. 3. 1 General objective
To design Ethiopia farming assistance web service.

1.3.2 Specific objectives

 To profile federal agricultural minister on the farming in terms of :-
 Gives full information about the new crop
 How the farmers take the crop on time
 The use of fertilizer
 To identify the requirements of the system in terms of :-
 Farming assistance web service
 Software and hardware requirements that are: - php, html, js, mysql, bracket and
microcontroller, LCD, Humidity sensor, resistor, and other
 To identify algorithm and design consider conceptual the feature of Ethiopian farming
assistance web service.

1.4. Scope of proposal
The scope of our proposal is almost all over the Ethiopia. This proposal is designed and
developed based on Ethiopian farming assistance web service. In Ethiopia from hundred 70% are
live in agriculture and the country economy was depend on the product of agriculture. To
increase or upgrade country economy and to get sufficient food to country farming is basic
needs. Particularly in our country Ethiopia their suitable air condition to produce good products,
for this the farmers get there useful advice from kebele up to federal agricultural minster in their
farm land, crops, irrigation, taking their crop on time, how the use the fertilizer, to know the soil
humidity and other information. So that the system was solve this problem as simply when they
contact each other and farmers get any useful advice or material from governmental
organization.

1.5. Limitation of the proposal

 Failure of electric power and network connection

1.6. Significant of proposal
The new farming assistance web service allocation system is highly reliable, easy, fast and
consistent and will play a crucial role for reliable service for farmers, kebele agricultural minster,
and for the federal agricultural minster. The significance of the system includes:
 To minimize time and efforts needed to perform tasks.
 To make tasks simple and efficient in every aspects.
 To manage the farmers and building information.
 Providing a well-organized and guaranteed record keeping system with minimum space and
effort need

Number [1] addresses the advanced system which improves agriculture processes like farming
assistance and cultivation on ploughed land. The advanced autonomous system Architecture
gives the opportunity to develop a complete new range of agricultural equipment Based on small
smart machines like robots and others. The machine will cultivate the farm after checking the
humidity of soil by soil moisture sensor and considering particular arrows and specific column at
fixed distance depending on crop. The obstacle detection Problem will also be considered,
sensed by infrared sensor. The whole algorithm, calculation, Processing, monitoring are designed
with motors & sensor interfaced with microcontroller. The result obtained through example
activation unit is also presented.

The advantages are:

 Presents a unified framework which will facilitate the implementation of future

autonomous agriculture system.
 Addresses the advanced system which improves agricultural processes like cultivation on
ploughed land.

The disadvantages are:

 Focuses only on cultivation.

 It is not clearly identify the farming method for the farmer.

Number [2] addresses the current scenario of the world, as most of the countries do not have
sufficient skilled manpower specifically in agricultural sector it affects the growth of developing
countries. So they have made an effort to automate the agricultural sector toovercome this
problem. An innovative idea of their project was to automate the process ofsowing crops. The
plantations of seeds are automatically done by using DC motor.

The advantages are:

 Automates the process of sowing crops and reduces the human effort and increases
the yield.
 Changes in direction can also be controlled in their system

The disadvantages are:

 Concentrates only on the process of sowing crops.
 There are possibilities of seeds getting damaged while sowing them.

2.1. Operational definitions of terms used

There are different types of operational terms that have used in the proposal that are:-

I. Bracket application: - this application is used to write our code like php, html, JavaScript,
css and database creation.
II. WAMPSERVER: - This application is one of the most useful applications in the world. It
is used to create database of the any software.
III. Microcontroller: - microcontroller is the biggest best circuit connecting chip to electrical
engineering student. We have used this microcontroller to have test the soil humidity
value using the humidity sensor with connect microcontroller.
IV. Humidity sensor: - the sensor is used to measure the soil humidity value in the frame
land.
V. LCD: - we have used LCD 16x2 in this proposal. It is used to display any kind that is
either numerical value or text to show on the screen. Now the LCD shows the humidity
value.
VI. GSM. The most important application that is used to send any kind of data from one area
to another area. In this proposal the GSM send the humidity value to the web server.
VII. Connecter. The application is used to connect the software part with the database and
when the connection is correct the GSM register the value on the database

METHODOLOGY
3.1. Tools/techniques to be used

We have used different kind of material to this proposal. That are: -

 Web part Materials Like: - server, database, and applications to have write the code.
 Hardware part materials Like: - Microcontroller, Humidity sensor, LCD display 16x2,
GSM, Resistor, Capacitor, Crystal and others.
 Language part to have write the program like: - JavaScript, HTML, PHP, CSS and
Bracket Applications.

3.2. Data collecting method to the proposal

For the collection of data, we use: observation, Interview, Questionnaires and document analysis.

Observation: Observation is common methods of scientific research to collect the data. We use
observation to know the existing system of Ethiopian farming assistance, the profile of federal
agricultural minister and how the tow member (Federal and kebele agricultural minister) are
handling the work in the farming sector.

Interview: Interview is particularly useful for getting the history behind the participant’s
experiences. We used interview to get information about the existing system for developing our
project. The interview will be conducted on the head of agricultural minister office and kebele
agricultural sectors.

Document Analysis: Document analysis is used to understand how the system was worked. We
used this method to know all about the agricultural assistance mission, vision, function and
overall, of their work in short and brief.
3.3. Data Processing Techniques
 Input Data

We have used the different kinds of materials and idea that to show the output of this projects.
Our input idea is Ethiopian farming assistance web service and the materials to show this project
Such that: - php, JavaScript, html, protease, bracket apps and others.

 Processing data
Processing means steps to show one thing or the methods that used to show some work.
In our proposal we have used processing to design Ethiopian farming assistance web service, the
processing used to get new output result.

 Output
The output mines the last result. In our project the output is new Ethiopian farming assistance
web service. This is very simply and useful web service to any farmers that to get advice from
the agricultural minister.

3.4. Selection of Appropriate approach

In our proposal we use RAD model technique for every necessary step. RAD methods take
iterative ideas to the extreme. Instead of using iterations lasting a year or two, their iterations last
a month, a week, or even less. Some RAD techniques also apply iteration to everything, not just
to programming. They apply iteration to requirement gathering, requirement validation, and
design.

Advantages

 More accurate requirements.

 The ability to track changing requirements.

 Frequent customer feedback and involvement.

 Reduced development time.

 Encourages code reuse.

 Possible early releases with limited functionality

 Constant testing promotes high‐quality code and eases integration issues.

 Risk mitigation.

 Greater chance of success.

First we have focuses on finding problems by observing our surrounding many farmers want to
support of agricultural minster. To have good agriculture advice is very important and we have
thinking this idea how the farmers and agricultural ministers are converse each other as simply.
The way is using web there is possible to converse each others. Now we have design develop this
to them.

CONCLUSION
This paper proposes an algorithm for recognizing the Ethiopian farming assistance web service
using digital soil moisture or humidity sensor. The proposed algorithm uses the farmers that how
they get full information about new crop, cultivation system, taking the crop on time, irrigation
system, to know the importance of the crop types and full advice from the federal agricultural
minster. The user do not now the system or web page use the kebele agricultural sector advice
them. The system or GSM is register the measured humidity value on the web page and the
federal agricultural minister see his value on the web, depending on the humidity value when the
federal agricultural minister send full information about crop, how they irrigate the farmland,
how they take the crop on time and other important advice to the farmer and to the kebele
agricultural minister. The system solves the farmer’s problem in easily ways, means they
convince or contact each other by using chat.
