pair of hockey skates $58. On Saturday he sold 32 pairs of skates. The receipts totaled
$1828 before taxes. How many of each type were sold?

17. Nathan needs to make 30 litres of a 28% acid solution. He has 2 bottles, one containing
20% acid and the other 50% acid. What volume of each should he mix together 20 make
the 28% acid solution?

18. One type of candy mix contains 30% Smarties by mass. A second type contains 20%
Smarties. What mass of each type need to be used to make a 500 gram mixture that will
have 24% Smarties by mass?

19. A trip involves travelling by bus and then by car. The speed of the bus is 80 km/h and
the car 100 km/h. The total time for the trip was 6 hours and the total distance 520 km.
How much time was spent on the bus and in the car?

20. Zsuzsa canoes 20 km downstream in 5 hours. When she returns going upstream it takes
her 8 hours. Determine the canoeing speed and the speed of the current. (Hint: upstream
speed = speed canoeing – speed of current, downstream speed = speed canoeing + speed
of current)
