FUNCTIONAL WRITEUP OF AIR DRYER

PROCESS DESCRIPTION:

1. PROCESS 1: TOWER 1 DRYING, TOWER 2 HEATING (0 - 300 Min)

2. PROCESS 2: TOWER 1 DRYING, TOWER 2 COOLING (301 -480 Min)
3. PROCESS 3: TOWER 1 HEATING, TOWER 2 DRYING (481 -780 Min)
4. PROCESS 4: TOWER 1 COOLING, TOWER 2 DRYING (781- 960Min)

Process 1-Tower 1 Drying & Tower 2 Heating:

The Hot air at 160°C to 180°C coming out from Air Compressor flows
through Pre Filter (PF) & then passes to Adsorber tower-2 (ADT-2) through
the valve V1 & V2. Moisture adsorbed by the Saturated Desiccant is then
transferred to hot air thereby Adsorber tower-2 is dried out of moisture.

The Hot air coming out from Adsorber tower-2 is directed to Regeneration
Cooler (RC) by V3 & V1 and cooled down to 45°C & flows through the
Moisture separator (MS) where bulk amount of moisture is separated out &
drained by Automatic timer based Drain valve. This Cool Wet air is then
directed to Adsorber tower-1 (ADT-1) where it gets dried out of moisture.
This Cool Dry air is directed to utility by V2 through After Filter (AF). This
Heating process is continued for 5 hours.

FUNCTIONAL WRITEUP OF AIR DRYER

Process-2 Tower 1 Drying & Tower 2 Cooling:

After heating process, the hot air going for regeneration is re-directed to
Regeneration cooler (RC) directly through valve V1. The cooled air then
goes to Adsorber tower-2 (ADT-2) through V3 and Hot Dry air coming out
from Adsorber tower-2 (ADT-2) goes to Inter Cooler (IC) through V2 & V1.
The Cool Dry air coming out from Inter Cooler (IC) goes to Adsorber tower-
1 (ADT-1). The Cool Dry air coming out from Adsorber tower-1 (ADT-1)
then goes to After Filter (AF) through V2 and for service. This Cooling
Process is continued for 3 hours.

Summary of valves Conditions during First Half Cycle:

 Valve ‘V1’, ‘V2’ & ‘V3’ - 0 - 5 hours in ‘De-energized’ condition.

 Valve ‘V1’ & ‘V3’ - 5 - 8 hours in ‘Energized’ condition.
 Valve ‘V2’ - 5 - 8 hours in ‘De-energized’ condition.

Process -3 Tower 1 Heating& Tower 2 Drying:

Now, The Hot air at 160°C to 180°C passes to Adsorption tower-1 (ADT-1)
through valve V1 and V2. The saturated air coming out from the Adsorption
tower-1 (ADT-1) goes to Inter cooler (IC) through valve V3 & goes to
Regeneration cooler (RC) through valve V1, gets cooled & hence moisture
condensed. The condensed moisture is separated in the Moisture separator
(MS) & drained by drain valve. Now this air is passed through valve V3 to
Adsorption tower-2 (ADT-2) & dried. The dry air coming out from the
Adsorption tower-2 (ADT-2) goes to After Filter (AF) through valve V2.
This heating process is continued for 5 hours.

Preocess-4 Tower 1 Cooling & Tower 2 Drying

After heating process, the hot air going for regeneration is re-directed to
Regeneration cooler (RC) directly through valve V1. The cooled air then

goes to Adsorption tower-1 (ADT-1) & gets dried. The Hot Dry air coming
out from Adsorber tower-1 (ADT-1) goes to Inter Cooler (IC) through V2 &
V1. The Cool Dry air coming out from Inter Cooler (IC) goes to Adsorber
tower-2 (ADT-2). The Cool Dry air coming out from Adsorber tower-1
(ADT-1) then goes to After Filter (AF) through V2 and for service. This
Cooling process is continued for 3 hours.

Summary of valves Conditions during Second Half Cycle:

 Valve ‘V1’ - 8 - 13 hours in ‘De-energized’ condition.
 Valve ‘V1’ - 13 - 16 hours in ‘Energized’ condition.
 Valve ‘V3’ - 8 - 13 hours in ‘Energized’ condition.
 Valve ‘V3’ - 13 - 16 hours in ‘De-energized’ condition.

Thus, the cycle goes continuously giving dry air.
