EXPERIMENT NO. 6: IMPEDANCES IN SERIES AND PARALLEL

I. OBJECTIVE
To measure the voltages and currents in an AC network.

II. DISCUSSION
Except for the fact that phasor algebra has to be used, AC circuit analysis is similar to
DC circuit analysis. Of course, this is easier said than done. AC circuit analysis is much,
much more difficult than DC circuit analysis. Long and tedious computations have to be
performed before we could get the results.

In this experiment, we are to get the voltages and currents experimentally. This is much
easier than the analytical approach. Of course, the phase angle cannot be measured with
the available instruments. This is often sufficient for most applications.

IV. PROCEDURE
1. Connect the circuit shown in Fig. 6.1.
2. Measure and record the voltages and currents indicated in the table.
