LEARNING PLAN

SUBJECT AREA: Disaster Readiness & Risk Reduction QUARTER: Fourth (4)

DATE: April 17, 2023 UNIT: Two (2)

TOPIC: Fire-related Hazards LEARNING PLAN #: 8

TRANSFER GOALS
The students in the long run and on their own will be able to …
The learners in the long run and on their own will be able to show awareness of the different
causes of hazards, to analyze how these factors can trigger such disaster and pose danger to
the community, and will be able to plan and prevent hazard or lessen the severity of its effect
particularly for the preservation of one’s culture and heritage.

ESSENTIAL UNDERSTANDING
Students will understand that …
Their learning of the concept of hazards are not always associated with the natural phenomena
but can also be associated with man-made incidents or those products of human errors or
machine failures.
.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS
The students will keep considering the following:
Why is there a need to practice your plan by applying it in real-life situation?

I. PRELIMINARIES

REVIEW:
The teacher will ask the students to recall the different hazards associated with
hydrometeorological phenomena.
“What hazards are associated with hydrometeorological phenomena?”

FOCUS: Fire Hazards and related concepts

MOTIVATION: Video presentation

Shows a video about a fire incident which causes property damaged and loss of livelihood.
Follow up questions:
 What can you say about the video?
 Have you experienced being in that situation?
If not, what would you feel if you were in their shoe?

APK:
Have you heard about the recent incident in where the couple and their three (3) children died
in a fire in their own home in the town of Pozorrubio, Pangasinan around dawn last April 4,
2023?
II. LESSON DEVELOPMENT

A. PRESENTATION OF CONCEPTS
Students will know …
 Difference between natural and human-made causes of fire
Students will be able to…
 The learners shall be able to make a plan that the household may use to avoid natural or
human-made causes of fire

ACTIVITIES:
Contingency Plan Making
The class will be divided into four (4) groups. The students will be instructed to take out their
phones and connect to the school Wi-Fi. Students will then be asked to type in
www.googledocx.com and name their document according to their group number. The students
will then answer the question, “If there will be an occurrence of fire in your residence, do you
think that the members of your household are prepared and knowledgeable on what to do?
Based from what you have learned about fire hazards, create your own Contingency Plan or
household preparedness plan.”
Using the format below.

They will be given 5-10 minutes for the brainstorming/collaborative work and strictly 3 minutes
during their presentation of their “Contingency Plan”. After they are done with their work, they
will be
asked to
email their
links to

francissepuertas@srcb.edu.ph for the presentation of their plan.

BROADENING OF CONCEPT:

Process Questions:
Why is it important to observe the precautionary measures and proper procedures in
addressing a fire incident?

B. INTEGRATION

a) IGNACIAN CORE/ RELATED VALUES: Stewardship

How will you encourage others to be vigilant enough during uncertain incidents and help
without expecting something in return?

b) SOCIAL ORIENTATION: Societal Awareness

How will you advocate/promote fire awareness in the society?

c) LESSON ACROSS DISCIPLINE: English

In what way can you assess effective communication with other people?

d) FAITH/ BIBLICAL REFLECTION:

“They are all glad to obey the Lord’s command and are ready to serve Him here on
earth. When their times of duty comes, they never disobey.” (Sirach 39:31)

III. EVALUATION / ASSESSMENT:

On a ¼ sheet of paper, the students will identify the following scenario whether the cause of
fire is Natural or Human caused. They will then write N for natural or H for human caused.
1. Burning tree because it is struck by lightning. N
2. Dried grass burned due to cigarette butt. H
3. Leaked of LPG that might lead to explosion. H
4. Forest fire due to absence of rain during El Niño phenomenon. N
5. Toddlers playing with a lighter that they found on top of the dinner table. H

IV. SUMMARY / ACTION

Now that we know the fire-related hazards and its safety/precautionary measures, as Ignacian-
Marian-Ritarian student, in what way can you help spread fire awareness to the marginalized
about the possible disaster risk this hazard may posed?

V. PURPOSIVE ASSIGNMENT

Research: Application and suggestions on ways to prevent man-made causes of fire.
