Introductory Message

Welcome to the Reading and Writing 11 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on
Identifying Unique Features of and Requirements in Composing Professional
Correspondence Application for College Admission.

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators from public
institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping the learners meet the standards
set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and economic
constraints in schooling.

This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent learning
activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help learners acquire the
needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module. You also
need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage their own learning.
Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks
included in the module.

Creativity is one of the most significant traits that we must have in the process of learning.
Being creative means to discover, explore, and create something that would really standout.
Through our creative hands and mind we can make learning fun and enjoyable. In this learning
resource, being creative signifies that you as a learner can discover new skills to explore and
be able to meet the competencies and skills.

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for guided
and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to process the
contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.
This module will assist you to learn how to practice ethics in writing a letter
effectively.
This will make you recognize that having such skill will be useful in such
situation which requires a professional response.
Please help the learners in sharing their ideas and knowledge from their
experiences so that there will be collaboration and learning will be easy.
Answers are written at the back of this module. Inculcate to the learners the
value of honesty while answering this module.

Applying for an academic slot requires presenting skills and competence


through a written letter It is important to make the letter clear and effective which will
be the basis whether you will be accepted or not.
Practicing ethics could mean the difference between an acceptance and a
rejection.
At the end of this module, you are expected to:

4. Recognize that letter writing remains an important skill, even in the age of

A College Admission Application Letter is written and used by a student who


would like to apply for an academic slot for a specific course that they want to take

When writing a college admission application letter, it is important to include all
the requisite information clearly and effectively because it presents your academic
qualifications which will be the basis whether you will be accepted or not. Just like
other letters, college admission application letter follows a standard letter format.

Introduction
1. Introduce yourself and mention what course are you applying for.
2. Impress your reader by showing them your enthusiasm to study in the university.
Body
1. Present your academic presentation, skills, extracurricular activities, community
involvement, and some of your personal characteristics.
2. State the benefits of why should the school consider your application. Do not just
tell, show them by explaining how.
Conclusion
1. Indicate that you are looking forward for an interview.
2. Include your mailing address or phone number so that the interviewer can contact
you.
3. Express your hope for a positive response.
4. Say thank you.

Tips in Preparing an Application Letter for College Admission
1. Be Yourself
Share your personal story and thoughts instead of giving highlights on the great
aspects of the particular college or school,
2. Organize your thoughts
Focus on one aspect so the readers must be able to know more about who you are
and find your motive clear. That will make your reader read your letter from beginning
to end.
3. Develop your ideas
Don’t simply state a fact in your letter. Be creative by including specific details and
examples.
4. Speak on your behalf
Don’t rely on ideas which are already been used for many people. Write about your
real experiences.
5. Proofread
Don’t depend on computer’s spell checker to catch mistakes. You may ask somebody
to proofread your letter like a friend, a classmate, or a colleague.

Language
1. Always use the active voice and verbs that denote action.
2. Observe correct grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and usage of words. Avoid using
jargon and cliches.
Jargon is the term used for specialized language that may only be used and
understood by those who are members of a certain group or who perform a specific
trade. For example, lesson plan is a term that is only used by teachers.
3. Be precise and specific.

Format and Mechanics


1. Use letter-sized bond paper with a 1- to 1.5-inch margin on all sides; limit the letter
to one two pages.
2. Do not forget to put your signature.
3. Use a letterhead. Include your full name, address, phone number, and email
address.
4. Use a business letter format. (block, full block, semi-block, or simplified)
5. Do not cram the letter at the upper half or lower half of the page.
6. Use font size at least 10 points and maximum of 12.
7. Use Arial font.
