Catch-Up Fridays
Narrative Report
January, 2024

The Department of Education (DepEd) implemented “Catch-up Fridays” to address

learning gaps among elementary and high school learners. Every Friday, the morning sessions
(estimated at two hours and 20 minutes) are allotted for the National Reading Program, which
incorporates various reading interventions and skill development activities. The afternoon
sessions are intended to value formation, peace education, health, and homeroom guidance
program.

Story Telling

Storytelling brings language learning alive and creates a participatory and immersive
experience that allows Young Learners to enjoy hearing the language in a dynamic,
sometimes stylistic and entertaining way. Participation using key vocabulary and phrases
can create an awareness of rhythm and structure.

Oral Performance
Oral performance is the process of building and sharing meanings using
verbal and non-verbal symbols in different contexts. It is a productive
necessary skill to communicate effectively and efficiently in any
language, especially when speakers are not using their native language.

Partner Reading

A literacy kit is a set of activities that are designed to allow a student to actively participate
and communicate during book reading activities. The primary purpose is to support and
