PREFACE
Today’s Sunday school students are tomorrow’s church. They will be active members of the Church. They are also
Nation builders. Our children are the salt of the society in the midst of a generation which had lost values. Sunday
school teachers toil tirelessly to strengthen them in the spiritual realm. Since 1995 onwards, we follow this Sunday school
curriculum. It aims to give spiritual nourishment and overall knowledge of the Word of God.
Today’s Sunday school is tomorrow’s church. So, utmost care and diligence should be exerted. Christ has entrusted us
the duty of rearing His sheep along with the growth of Christ’s church which is more important.(Ephesians 4:11-16) .
For this purpose teachers and students should join together and study the Word of God systematically. Sunday school is
the treasure trove of the church. The Scripture itself says, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he
will not turn from it.” Robert Rakes, in 18th century invited vagabonds, children of factory workers, estate labourers and
taught them songs, prayers, bible study etc. This led to Spiritual Renaissance in England. Spiritual warriors like George
Muller were the products of those Sunday Schools.
The future leaders of the Church of God are our children. The President, Secretary, Board Members, District – Zonal
office bearers, Local Church Pastors, Headmasters, teachers, persons sponsoring book are all participating in this priceless
endeavour to make the children efficient. The sixth edition of this book is dedicated on behalf of the Church of God,
with the prayer that all those who use this book shall be a blessing in all ways.

In Lord’s service,

Mulakuzha Pastor C. C. Thomas

DECLARATION
Sunday school is an organisation to teach the Word of God to the next generation. Sunday school also helps them to
grow up into Him, who is the Head, that is, the Christ. Since the inception of the Church of God, Sunday school has
been organised. The labour, pain and services of blessed servants of God, who were behind this endeavour, are kindly
remembered.
The teachers, who dedicate themselves in preparing the generation & helping them to attain eternal life, are
congratulated. Let God bless them for all their priceless services.
The Sunday school department was started with an intention to teach the Word of God to the rising generation of
the Church. For implementing this, the Department started publishing highly standard books since 1995. In 2014, more
interesting and interactive text (Class 1) was published. Text books up to eleventh class are written by well experienced
and highly qualified teachers in theological and secular field.
Sunday school is having a great role in advancement of the Gospel. It is happy to see that majority of children are
attaining salvation, baptism, spiritual baptism, dedication to Lord's service, during the Sunday school period.
I thank, Honourable State Overseer Pastor C.C Thomas, Board members, my colleagues in the Sunday school family,
Salu Varghese, State Secretary, who had masterminded to release a new Sunday school book with picture and activities
and all those who are encouraging the Sunday school Department
This book will be a blessing for the children. Above all, our gracious God will be glorified through this publication.

FOREWORD
Sunday School has been educating and molding our young ones in the eternal Word of God in addition to their Christian Family
upbringing. The rapidly changing and ever modernization, has mandated us too to constantly review and update the teaching
methodology and techniques used in our Sunday school curriculum. Accordingly, Sunday School Board decided to review and revise
the entire curriculum of standard I.
We are happy to bring out a text book with new style and thus present an altogether new vine in a new bottle but without diluting
the ever eternal Word of God.
“Listen”, “See”, “Do”, “Repeat” are the keywords used to prepare this curriculum. When the teacher tells a story, students study
by listening them. By showing they can remember approximately 50% of the story. The use of Flash Cards in the classes, the children
can memorize up to 70% of the story. But by Doing Activities given along with lesson almost 80% of the topic can be retained by
the students. When students study the questions on the last part of the lesson, they get a chance to repeat the portion. Experts
suggest that children can retain even up to 90% of the subject by Listening, Seeing, Doing & Repeating.
In each chapter, different types of activities are included for the fun and attracting the attention of our children. Coloring, Find
out the right way, Match the figures, Find out the differences, Tick the correct answer, Crosswords etc. are among some of them.
All teachers should have crayons adequate to the number of children. Pencil is to be brought by the children. Children should be
encouraged to do all the activities themselves and independently. At the end of the year, students who have done activities and
exercises in the book in commendable manner can be rewarded to encourage such student and set example for other students to
follow.
Generally on a subject, Students have a limited attention span of 10-15 minutes. It is preferred to teach the lessons within 15
minutes. Next 20 minutes can be set apart for activities. Activities and teaching should be done on same day itself. It is recommended
not to postpone activities of the lesson taught to some other date and time. Teachers should only take a class after thorough reading,
understanding and preparation of the Subject to be covered. The children’s attention should be brought to the topic or the subject
by throwing set of questions or by telling stories given in the introductory part.
A teacher is successful when he teaches the lesson and the children retain the subject covered in the class in their lives. Teacher
should use simple words. Not only Bible stories but also moral stories related to practical life should be taught. Above all, pray to
God for the Knowledge and Wisdom of God.
Never forget that we have been given this opportunity by Almighty God Himself to teach our children His Word and that we are
accountable for our Children.
May God bless you,

INTRODUCTION
We all know the names of our parents (Ask a few
students to give out the names). It's wonderful to have
nice parents. We, children, belong to them. A long
time ago, God, who is in heaven, created a man and
a woman as His children. The man was named Adam,
and his wife was Eve.

THE RESULT OF
DISOBEDIENCE
READING PORTION: Genesis 3: 1-24; 2: 15-18
OBJECTIVE
1. We should obey God completely.
2. Understand the consequences of disobedience,
thereby getting trained for obedience.
INTRODUCTION
One day, Tom, a boy of about your age, was play-
ing in the courtyard. Suddenly, he ran to a nearby
cattle shed; seeing this, his father called him back.
But did he turn back? No! He went to the cow that
was standing there with pointed horns. The cow shook
its head and pushed him down. Tom lay there in pain.
Why did this happen? Just disobedience. It was al-
most like this when Adam and Eve disobeyed God's
word. Let's see how God punished Adam and Eve.

ENOCH'S LIFE
Seth was one of the sons of Adam. Enoch was
born into the family of Seth. Enoch grew up and was
married. At the age of 65, a son was born to him. Just
as we give names to children born into our families,
Enoch called his son Methuselah. People who lived
around Enoch led a life of sin. But Enoch feared God

God had great love for Enoch because he did only
what was pleasing to God. So, everyday God came
down to meet Enoch and they walked together. Dur-

happy to talk to our loving God? When they walked
together, Enoch used to ask God about heaven, and
God would describe to him the glory of heaven. Enoch
had much joy listening to this.
ENOCH IS TAKEN UP TO HEAVEN
Years passed by. One day, Enoch had a desire to
see the beautiful heaven of God. He told God about
his desire. God agreed to take Enoch to heaven. They
journeyed together for a long time, and reached
heaven. Thus, without physical death, Enoch reached
heaven in his body. Enoch's family must have
searched for him. When Enoch was not found, his
family would have understood that he was in heaven.

INTRODUCTION
Have you ever seen floods during rainy seasons?
How do people move about during times of flood?
Yes, in boats! So, to escape from flood, we need a
vessel that floats on water. Once, there was a great
flood on this earth. Now we are going to see how God
protected Noah, a very holy man, from the flood.
LESSON
THE DAYS OF NOAH'S LIFETIME
We have learnt of Enoch who walked with God.
Noah was born into Enoch's family after many years.
People during Noah's days led unholy lives, which
God did not like. They fought with one another, stole,

also stored adequate food in it. Then, Noah and his
family - 8 people altogether got into the Ark. God
closed the door of the Ark. After seven days, it started
to rain, and it went on for forty days . Water rose on
the earth and covered everything. The Ark began to
float on water. All those outside the Ark were de-
stroyed.

LESSON
In our last lesson, we learned how Abraham and
Sarah got a son, Isaac in their old age. We saw how
Isaac came out alive from the altar. He grew up to be
a young man and married a lady named Rebecca.
Sometime later, a pair of twins was born to them -
Esau and Jacob. Both the boys grew up well. Esau

The merchants brought Joseph to Egypt, and sold
him to a rich man. Joseph lived there for some time.
Though he didn't do anything wrong, he was accused

JOSEPH'S FAMILY BROUGHT TO EGYPY
Just as Joseph had said, there were seven years
of prosperity. Joseph built big barns to store grain.
The next seven years were times of famine. Famine
affected the land of Canaan too, where lived Joseph's
father and brothers. When they had no food, Jacob
sent his sons to Egypt to collect grain. They ap-
proached the minister, but didn't recognize that it was
their brother Joseph. However, Joseph recognized his
brothers. Joseph treated his brothers with love. He
felt no hatred for them who had sold him off. He sent
them back with enough grain. After some time, he
brought his father, brothers and their families to Egypt,
where there was no famine.

Israelites. Till that time, the Israelites did not have a

DAVID'S APPOINTMENT AS KING
One day, God sent Samuel to the house of Jesse.
His visit had a purpose: he was to anoint one of the

children for Jesse. Jesse answered that there was
one, who had gone to tend the sheep. He was the
youngest, by name David. Word was sent for David
to come before Samuel. He was short in stature.
Samuel called David near him; poured oil on his head

also should obey. During famine, Elijah was fed by
God, through the ravens. It may be possible that the

GOD PUNISHES
THE MOCKERS

READING PORTION: 2 Kings 2 : 23 - 24

OBJECTIVE

We should not mock anyone. It is a sin to ridicule

others. Hence, God will punish the mockers.

INTRODUCTION

While walking around, you must have seen people

with little hair on their heads. Is it right to call them
'baldheads' ? No; because, when we call them so,
we are mocking them, Today we'll learn of the
punishment some youngsters got for mocking the
prophet Elisha.

LESSON

We have already studied of the prophet Elijah.

Elisha was his chief disciple. A disciple is one who
walks with a leader, obeying his will. After Elijah Elisa
became the most known prophet. He performed many

Bethel, a group of young men saw him. They felt him
look funny. These bad boys mocked him, shouting
"Go on up, you baldhead, go on up, you baldhead"!
Think of the great wrong commited by these boys.
Instead of respecting men of holiness, they ridiculed
Elisha.

RESULT OF MOCKERY

When the youth mocked Elisha again and again,

he turned and cursed them. Immediately, there came
out from the woods two bears. They leapt at the young
men; 42 of them were killed by bears.

When Elisha, the man of God, was mocked by the

young men, they were killed. We children should not
mock or ridicule others. Such acts will bring punish-
ment from 'God. We should respect others.

JESUS LOVES
THE LEPER

READING PORTIONS : Mathew 8 :1 - 4; Luke 5:12-14

OBJECTIVE
To help students realize that 1. Jesus can heal any
disease which may look incurable in man's sight, and
2. Jesus shows mercy to those sick people who are
avoided by other people.
INTRODUCTION
We have learnt about Jesus' love for Zacchaeus,
the tax collector, whose work brought him hate from
others. There are some other types of people who
were hated by all. People with leprosy get only treat-
ment of hate from others. But, when Jesus saw a leper,
he felt mercy upon him, and healed him. That's our
story for today.
LESSON
Some illness can spread fast from one person to
others nearby. When we have fever or chickenpox,
our friends may not be happy to come and sit with us.

3. Where did the Jews permit the leper to live?
The Israelites were known by another name Jews.
4. What happened when Jesus touched the leper?
The Jews hated lepers so much that a leper had to
stay outside the village. But Jesus loved even the lep-
ers. One day, Jesus was walking through a village
near the sea of Galilee. As he walked along, he saw
a leper approaching him, with a look of misery upon
his face. He too had heard from someone that Jesus
would heal all sorts of ailments. When this leper came
near, those who were with Jesus moved away.
JESUS HEALS THE LEPER
The leper came near and offered his respects to
Jesus. "Lord, if you decide so, you can make me
clean" - he said to Jesus. Jesus had compassion for
him. No one will dare to touch a leper. But Jesus, in
His love touched the leper and prayed for him. "Be
clean!" - said Jesus. Immediately, his leprosy van-
ished and the man became clean. Praising Jesus for
this healing, the man happily left for his village.
Jesus can heal any illness. He loves all who are sick,
and has mercy for them. We should not hate anyone
who is ill. Let us help those who are ill, and pray for them.

OBJECTIVE
To help children understand that 1. Jesus, the good
shepherd, is God who has come to save us, who are

Jesus, our shepherd.
INTRODUCTION
Do you like sheep ? Some of you must have been
to houses with sheep. In Palestine, the land where
Jesus moved about, sheep were kept in great num-
bers. Those who took care of them are called 'shep-
herds'. Our lesson for today speaks of a good shep-
herd who searched and found his lost sheep.
LESSON
THE LOST SHEEP
A shepherd had a hundred sheep. Every day, he
took them to places with much grass to feed upon,
and also to valleys with clear water. One day, as usual,
this good shepherd set out with his sheep. During
