ANSWER SHEET IN SCIENCE 9

Name:____________________________________ Section:__________________ Score:__________

Activity 1:

B. From the concepts that you have learned, answer the checkup questions:
a. Which has greater momentum, a huge truck that is not moving or a small toy cart
that is moving? Prove your answer.
b. A moving car has a momentum. If it moves twice as fast, its momentum would be
______________ as much.
c. Two cars, one twice as heavy as the other, moves down a hill at the same time. The
heavier car would have a ________________ momentum.

Activity 2. Impulse-Momentum Theorem

1. A force of 6.0N acts on a 4.0 kg object for 10.0 seconds. What is the object’s change in
momentum and what is its change in velocity?

2. A snowmobile has a mass of 250 kg. A constant force acts on it for 65.0 seconds. The
snowmobiles initial speed is 6.0 m/s and its final speed is 28.0 m/s. What is its change
in momentum and what magnitude of force causes this change?

3. A billiard ball of mass o.2 kg rolls towards the right-hand cushion of a pool table at 2 m/s and
rebounds straight back at the same speed but opposite in direction.
a) What is the change of momentum as a result of hitting the cushion?
b) What impulse is given to the ball by the cushion?

4. A 2 kg skateboard is rolling across a smooth, flat floor when a girl kicks it causing it to speed
up to 4.5 m/s in 0.5 seconds without changing direction. If the average force exerted by the girl
on the skateboard in its direction of motion was 6N, with what initial velocity was it moving?
