Activity Title : Know the Steps! Learning Target : Identify the steps of scientific method. Reference : SLM 7, MELC (S7MT-Ia-1) LAS Writer : Noel Q. Brasileño
Basic Steps of Scientific Method
1. Make observation - By observation, anything around us can be studied and questions may arise as we become aware of our surroundings. 2. Come up with a question - A questions may arise as we encountered problems that need answers in our observation of the surroundings. 3. Develop a hypothesis or prediction - You can make a question out from an observation that has been made. And to answer such question you make a prediction to guess what happen next. But a hypothesis is not only a simple guess but an educated guess. It is a tentative answer to the problem. 4. Conduct an experiment or test the hypothesis - To test whether our hypothesis or educated guess is right or wrong we have to conduct an experiment to prove the result. 5. Record and analyze the results - A researcher, after the experiment usually record and then analyze the result of their study for evaluation. Base on the result, the researcher can analyze if the prediction or the intelligent guess is correct or not. It also validate the hypothesis given beforehand prior to the experiment. 6. Draw conclusions - Conclusion is the final answer to the problem in the experiment.
Activity I: Know the Steps!
Direction: Select the best answer inside the word box for the following questions/statements and write only the letter of your choice in the space before the number.
A. Conclusion B. Experiment C. Hypothesis
D. isMake 1. What observation the first step of a scientific method? E. Observation
2. It is the final answer to the problem in the experiment.
3. It is an educated guess or a tentative answer to a problem? 4. Hypothesis can be tested through . 5. Anything around us can be studied by .
Activity II: Know the Steps!
Direction: Write True if the statement is correct and write False if the statement conveys wrong idea. Write your answer on the space provided.
1. A hypothesis is not only a simple guess but it is an educated guess.
2. To test a hypothesis is to conduct an actual experiment. 3. Conclusion that is obtained from the study may not be the final answer to the problem in an experiment. 4. A questions may arise as we encounter problems during observation in our surroundings. 5. A researcher usually record and analyze the results after the experiment.
