Position of Media Law in other countries

Until the United Kingdom withdrawn from Europian Union article 8 and article 10 of
Europian Union Human Rights Act guarantees provisions in the U.K which safeguards
freedom of press and right to privacy. As a current member, state of the Europian Union, the
U.K’s regulation of audio- visual media service directive ( AVMSD ). The directive was
revised in the year 2016. To reflect the shift in viewing habits away from broadcast television
towards the video on demand & video sharing platform.
Media legislation and policy in U.K, they relates to two sectors:
1. The commercial media
2. Public service broadcasting
Since, the year 1990s, there has been a general trend in the U. K for de- regulation and
regulation in preventing cross- media ownership of commercial media organization. The most
significant piece of communication and media legislation is the Communication Act, 2003.
This Act opened up the ownership of U.K media to non- EU companies. The Act also
included cross media- ownership rule which prevents large newspaper groups from owning
broadcasting license.
