LITERATURE REVIEW

INTRODUCTION

Water quality monitoring is essential for ensuring the safety and security of our water
resources. In recent years, the Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a powerful
technology that can be leveraged to create real-time monitoring systems for various
applications, including water quality monitoring. This literature review focuses on the
design and implementation of an IoT-based real-time water quality monitoring system
using Raspberry Pi, a popular single-board computer.
RELATED WORKS
K. V. Ramana, K. P. J. Reddy, B. Srinivas(2017) This paper presents a Raspberry
Pi-based real-time water quality monitoring system for aquaculture. The system uses a
variety of sensors to measure water quality parameters such as pH, temperature,
dissolved oxygen, and turbidity. The data collected by the sensors is transmitted
wirelessly to a Raspberry Pi, which processes the data and displays it on a web
interface.
The system was tested in a real-world aquaculture setting and demonstrated accurate
and reliable water quality monitoring. The system provides real-time insights into
water quality, enabling farmers to make informed decisions about their aquaculture
operations.
The proposed Raspberry Pi-based real-time water quality monitoring system for
aquaculture is a cost-effective and efficient solution for water quality monitoring. The
system provides real-time data, enabling farmers to make informed decisions and
improve their aquaculture operations. The system can be easily deployed in various
aquaculture settings and can contribute to improved water quality and increased
aquaculture productivity[1].
A. Kaur and S. Kaur(2018) This literature presents a performance evaluation of an
IoT-based water quality monitoring system using Raspberry Pi. The system uses
various sensors to measure water quality parameters such as pH, temperature,
turbidity, and dissolved oxygen. The collected data is transmitted wirelessly to a
Raspberry Pi, which processes the data and transmits it to a cloud platform for storage
and analysis.
The system was evaluated in terms of accuracy, reliability, and latency. The results
showed that the system was accurate and reliable in measuring water quality
parameters. The system also had low latency, which is important for real-time
monitoring applications. The accuracy of the system was evaluated by comparing the
measured values with the values obtained from a reference laboratory. The reliability
of the system was evaluated by measuring the consistency of the measured values
over time. The latency of the system was evaluated by measuring the time it took for
the data to be transmitted from the sensors to the cloud platform[2].
A. M. Al-Fuqaha, M. Guizani, M. Mohammadi, M. Aledhari(2000) presents a
detailed exploration of designing an IoT-based system for real-time water quality
monitoring. The paper discusses the practical implementation of such a system,
addressing the challenges and solutions involved. It likely covers methodologies for
sensor integration, data transmission, and analysis, as well as conceptual frameworks
for understanding the variables influencing water quality monitoring. This work
contributes to the empirical understanding of IoT applications in water quality
monitoring and may identify gaps in existing methodologies or propose novel
solutions.
The paper likely discusses the methodology employed in designing and implementing
the IoT-based water quality monitoring system. This could include details on sensor
selection, integration with Raspberry Pi or other IoT devices, data acquisition
techniques, wireless communication protocols, and data analysis methods[3].
B. Sengupta, S. Sawant, M. Dhanawade, S. Bhosale(2019) the paper aims to
investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of utilizing IoT for monitoring water
quality parameters in various settings. And contributes to the body of literature on IoT
applications in water quality monitoring by providing insights into the practical
aspects of deploying IoT solutions in this domain.
The authors likely describe the methodology employed in their study, including the
selection and integration of IoT devices, sensors, and data transmission protocols.
They may discuss the deployment of these devices in real-world environments to
collect water quality data.the paper could also emphasize the real-time capabilities of
the IoT system, allowing stakeholders to access and monitor water quality data
instantaneously. This aspect may be crucial for timely decision-making and
intervention in case of any water quality anomalies or emergencies[4].

Based on the above literature we plan to designing and implementing an IoT-based

real-time water quality monitoring system using Raspberry Pi is to develop a cost-
effective, reliable, and user-friendly system for monitoring water quality in real-time.
The system should be able to measure various water quality parameters, such as pH,
temperature, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen, and display the measurement values.
