[School Name] is in the process of reconvening school committees and holding elections, as required by
state and federal regulations. You are invited to become a candidate for membership on the School Site
Council, School Advisory Committee, and/or English Learner Advisory Committee.

The School Site Council (SSC) represents parents, students, community members, and school staff in
school governance. The SSC is responsible for the development, revision and monitoring of the Single
Plan for Student Achievement, and overall school site budget including any state and federal categorical
funds.

The School Advisory Committee (SAC) advises the principal and the SSC on the design, implementation
and monitoring of the State Compensatory Education Program. Their tasks include reviewing the
eligibility criteria for student selection and the implementation of the schoolwide program.

The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) advises the principal and the SSC and school staff on
programs and services to English Learners. Their tasks include advising the principal and staff on the
school’s program for English learners and making parents aware of the importance of regular school
attendance.

The school and district are responsible for providing you with the information and training you need to
be an effective member. Generally, committees meet once a month for two hours.

This is a two-year term. If you are interested, please return the bottom portion to your child’s teacher
by [DATE]. An election ballot of those names will be sent home on [DATE]. All ballots must be
returned by [DATE].
