SAYAW SA BANGKO

The Philippine folk dance Sayaw sa
Bangko which means "bench dance" is
originated within the Lingayen and Pangasinan
of the Pangapisan Tribe. It is believed that the
Sayaw sa Bangko dance existed even before the
Spaniards came to the Philippines. This implies
that the dance is only created by the Filipino
ancestors. It had been originally performed by
the newlyweds for their guests during their
wedding feast. The dance showcase both bride
and groom and the way they complement and
help one another with the convoluted steps
guaranteeing they do not fall from the bench
roughly six inches’ wide.
Sayaw sa Bangko is one amongst the
renowned Philippine folk dances in which the
dancers should use smart skills and balance as
they dance on top of a slender bench. Dancers demonstrate their skills as they dance
on top of a slender bench, while constantly exchanging places. It is an exciting Filipino
folk dance because while the dancers are managing to balance themselves on the top
of the bench (bangko) they still ought to manage to execute the dance steps. The joy
of the dance is what makes it adored by the audience.

PURPOSE OF THE DANCE


The purpose of this dance is to bring rural and barrio communities together
throughout celebrations. Nowadays, this dance is being performed on stage to
entertain audiences.

COSTUME AND PROPS
The boy wears Camisa de chino with neckerchief around his neck, trousers
rolled up. And for the girl is Patadyong. Both are without shoes or socks.

MUSIC
The music used in this dance is folk music arranged using folk instruments
such as rondalla, kulintang, gimbal and kudyapi.

Dancing Sayaw sa Bangko does not just provide fun and entertainment but
also aids to develop positive perspectives towards appreciation of the dancers ability
and respect between one another. It equip the confidence of the dancers in a way that
they perform it gracefully without falling into the narrow bench. It also shows love for
Filipino culture and respect for the ancestors who started and enriched our tradition.
By dancing Sayaw sa Bangko, we can help revive and preserve the Filipino culture so
that we can pass it on to the next generation and they can also experience the joy of
performing this dance.
