1.0 Purpose / Scope


1.1 Purpose: To communicate the overall approach of the Seneca Battery areas towards
maintaining a safe work environment.

1.2 Scope: This policy covers and applies to all BorgWarner Battery employees, visitors,
vendors, contractors, and temporary employees.
1.3 Scope: This policy is set forth to ensure we are committed to complying with all
applicable OHS legal requirement.

2.0 Responsibility
2.1 Safety is everyone’s responsibility:
Each Employee must take responsibility to play an integral role in their own safety. All
employees owe a duty to themselves, to fellow workers and to BW to work in a safe
manner, to report unsafe and unhealthy conditions to their respective leadership, and
to ensure that they fully understand and comply with the policies & procedures that
are in place at BW Seneca.
Leadership members are responsible for providing a safe and healthy work environment,
to actively engage with all employees throughout all levels of functions, to train our
people, to actively encourage participation in building proactive culture, and to
continually monitor business OH&S metrics. Leadership is responsible for ensuring
that their subordinates fully understand and comply with existing policies and
procedures and notify the Safety Coordinator about any discrepancies that have been
identified in the Safety Policies and Procedures.
Safety Coordinator is responsible for providing material for all Safety policies and
procedures that are in place at BW Seneca.
Human Resources is responsible for providing appropriate safety-related training and
instructional materials.
Plant Manager is responsible for the overall compliance of the facility.

4.1 BorgWarner’s goal is to provide safe and healthy work environment and is committed to
the following to achieve occupational health and safety excellence:

4.2 Philosophy

4.2.1 It is the philosophy at BorgWarner Seneca that safety is an integral part of


providing a quality product at a competitive price. We measure the success of
our safety program by everyone’s ability to leave the plant the same way
as when they entered.

4.2.2 Safety is critical to BorgWarner Seneca operations. We take a proactive


approach to preventing injuries to employees, damage to property, and to
protecting our employees, the company, our customers, and the public from the
results of accidents. To that end we recognize that:

4.2.2.1 The prevention of injuries and illnesses is of such importance that it will be
given precedence over production whenever necessary

4.2.2.2 Accidents are not a necessary part of doing business


4.2.2.3 No task is to be performed without proper training and awareness of the
hazards involved
4.2.2.4 5S practices affect the safety, quality, and productivity of our business

4.3 Objective

The overall goal for the BorgWarner Seneca Plant is zero accidents and zero injuries. To
achieve that end we will promote the avoidance of all accidents.

4.4 Communication

BorgWarner Seneca encourages communication among all employees regarding safety


concerns and opportunities for improvement.

4.5 Improvement Methods

4.5.1 Job performance and employee relations are enhanced when the following
factors are prioritized in the listed order:

4.5.1.1 Safety
4.5.1.2 Quality
4.5.1.3 Production

4.5.2 Methods for continually improving and promoting the importance of safety within
the BorgWarner Seneca plant include, but are not limited to:

4.5.2.1 The formation of a safety committee that is comprised of hourly employees as


well as management representatives.
4.5.2.2 Various committees that deal with specific areas of safety: Job Safety
Analysis Teams, Ergonomics Teams, and Medical Response Teams.
4.5.2.3 Periodic safety walks throughout various areas of the plant to identify safety
concerns within work cells.
4.5.2.4 Thorough investigation followed by immediate action of all valid safety
concerns
