I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the session, the students can do the following with at least 70% level of
proficiency:
a. Define what is Philippine Folk Dance?
b. Identify the different basic step use in Folk Dance especially in feet and arms
position.
c. Execute the fundamental positions of feet and arms in folk dance.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE LESSON

“Today we are about to discuss about the

Philippine Folk dance.”

“But before we start to our topic let me ask to


you about the Folk Dance.”

“What is Folk Dance First?” (Students will raise their hands)

“Folk dance refers to the dances created and

community in the cordillera , in Mindoro,
Palawan, Sulu and Mindanao, and the rural or
lowland Christian dances among the groups
like the Ilokano , Pangasinan, Tagalog ,
Pampango, Bicol Cebuano , ilongo and
Waray.”

“For every student who has had dancing for PE


before, you would have at least heard of the
five fundamental positions of the arms and
feet. For those of you who don’t know what it
is, it’s a technique almost always taught in
dancing that involves mainly the arms and feet.
Since we are in the first grade, the five
fundamental positions of the arms and feet
were always taught to us in the first term. It
was helpful to practice many aspects of
dancing, such as timing, flexibility, and more.”

“Fundamental positions of feet and arms, have 5


positions that we are going to execute after the
discussion. But now we proceed first in Feet
Positions from 1st to 5th and followed by the
arms position.”

“Is that ok class?” “Yes sir”

“Okay, very Good!”

“In feet position we are going to execute from


1st to 5th”

FEET POSITIONS

1st Position- Heels together, toes apart with an


angle of 45 degrees.

2nd Position – Astride sideward of about pace


or 1 foot distance.
3rd Position – Heels of one foot close to the
in- step of the other foot.

4th Position- One foot in front of the other


about a pace distance.

5th Position – Heel of Front close to the big


toe of the rear foot.”

“We are done in Feet, any question about the “None Sir”

“Now we proceed in arms Position.”

ARMS POSITIONS

1st Position - Encircle both arms in front of


chest with the finger tips about an inch apart.
2nd Position- Both arms raised sideward with
a graceful curve.

3rd Position- One arm is raised above your


head, while the other arm maintains the second
position. The arm that was raised should be
slightly curved as well.

4th Position - One arm in a half circle in front


other arm raised overhead.

5th Position- Both hands raised overhead.

“Now we are done in all positions in hand and “None Sir”

First, it serves as training for beginners.

and folk dance. In some dances, many of the
techniques used would utilize the five basic
positions. Third, it’s an activity suitable for any
age, as it doesn’t require too much energy, and
it’s simple to perform after some practice.”

dancing folk dance. You are going to identify it
by observing properly and write your answers
on the paper.”

“Now! Pass all your work in 5.4.3.2.1.0”. (Students will submit their activity)
