Activity 1: Essay Write an essay for the following questions below.
1. What is mathematics in your own understanding?
Mathematics, in general, is a totally abstract discipline that analyzes numbers, quantities, structures, patterns, letters, and equations. However, in my own perspective, it is also more than that, it is a style of thinking, a means of solving issues and expressing arguments, a foundation upon which contemporary civilization is built, and a framework by which nature is patterned. 2. What is it about mathematics that might have changes your thoughts about it? Technically, we all look at mathematics differently. Some people can understand it, while others cannot. It's difficult to grasp arithmetic ideas. Some will be able to master them, while others will wish to move on. Math has always been a challenge for me. In fact, I used to say, "I'm already tired," whenever the word "math" was spoken in class. It wasn't until I was in my second year of junior high school that I learned the importance of arithmetic and I began to appreciate math. Furthermore, I believe that mathematics is more than simply numbers or something universal, but that it is a critical discipline in everyone's life. Because a math problem may be tackled in a number of ways, it allows one to approach real-life situations with an open mind. To summarize, the world would not profit from mathematics and would not be a better place to live without it.
