REVISED THEME FOR THE GROUP 5 PROJECT.

“Interdisciplinary approaches to combating malnourishment in communities”.

Project Description: Malnourishment is an intricate concern that affects communities worldwide. To

tackle this problem effectively, it necessitates a combined approach of sciences, where insights from
different fields such as biology, chemistry, environmental science, and social sciences come together to
develop sustainable solutions.

The task for the candidates;

- You are expected to explore how a combined approach of a variety of science disciplines can be
used to assess and combat malnourishment in communities.
- design a comprehensive solution by integrating knowledge and methodologies from various
scientific disciplines.

Objectives;

- Understand the Complex Nature of Malnutrition by the biological, economic, social, and
environmental factors contributing to malnutrition
- Promote collaboration among learners from different science disciplines.
- Develop a holistic understanding of the global issue.
- investigate the scientific (biological, social, economic, and environmental) aspects of
malnutrition and propose comprehensive solutions with great consideration of the input from
other areas of group 5, including physics, chemistry, and other subjects.

Here but not limited to, are areas that are to be thought about where each may have a pivotal role in
your project.

Subject areas- Biology, Chemistry, Physics, ESS, Social sciences, and Technology.

a) Explore the biological aspects of the theme, like causes and effects on the human body. Explore
how different nutrients impact health and growth.

b) Consider how the chemical composition of various food sources relates to their nutritional
importance. What about shelf life?

c) Consider how environmental factors, such as climate change and resource availability, impact
food production and accessibility.

d) Explore technological innovations in relation to the theme.

While individuals and Societies do not fully fall into this category, an inquest into how culture, economy
and global policies contribute to the theme may be considered as a plus.

Outcomes:

The project should aim to develop a comprehensive plan for addressing malnutrition in the chosen
community, taking into account the insights and recommendations from each scientific discipline.
