SUBJECT: Release of New 6625 Off Highway Vocational Model/ Enhanced Reverse Carrier Assembly and
Turbine

MODELS AFFECTED: 5000/6000 Series Transmissions

Effective January 4, 2016, Allison Transmission, Inc. announces the release of the new 6625 ORS transmission
model. The new model will be available with shipments beginning in January 2016. The current 6620 model will
continue to be available as well. The 6625 model will include upgrades to the torque converter, low planetary,
and reverse planetary. The new units will be designated as the 6625 ORS model. Concurrent to this release, an
improved reverse carrier assembly and turbine are being implemented in the production of 5620/6620 models as
well as an improved retarder rotor is being made available as an option on the 5620/6620 and 6625 models.

The new model will be physically and functionally interchangeable with the current models, but will include internal
upgrades as follows:

Torque Converter:

The new torque converter turbine assembly features optimized vane geometry that will improve fatigue life without
affecting converter performance. The turbine vanes have been anodized to provide additional resistance to material
wear. Beginning with S/N 3110120764 all subsequent 5620/6620 model transmissions will be produced using
current Turbine Assembly P/N 29557446.

NOTE: Turbine Assembly P/N 29544567 has been completely cancelled and is replaced by Turbine
Assembly P/N 29557446 for all production and service needs.

Low Planetary System:

Isotropic finishing to sun and carrier gears will reduce gear pitting and extend life.

Reverse Planetary System:

The reverse planetary system was redesigned to be more robust in high torque, extended reverse range operation.
The full complement bearing system used in former 5620/6620 planetary pinions are replaced with dual caged
bearings. Beginning with S/N 3110120907 all subsequent 5620/6620 model transmissions will be produced
using current Reverse Carrier Assembly P/N 29556895. Refer to Table 1 for a list of detail parts available for the
current reverse carrier assembly.

NOTE: Former Reverse Carrier Assembly P/N 29557855 and all detail parts within the assembly are
maintained for service.

CAUTION: All detail parts for former Reverse Carrier Assembly P/N 29557855 are maintained for service
but are not interchangeable with the current carrier components (with the exception of the Pinion Thrust
Washer P/N 23015601). It may be possible to mismatch components during assembly. Be sure to match
all corresponding parts to the correct carrier to prevent mis-assembly and damage to the components
and/or transmission.

Heavy Duty Retarder: (Optional)

The 6625 model improves upon the 5620/6620 all aluminum rotor by changing the center spline section to a steel
hub. The 6625 model uses the same rotor design as the 5620/6620 model and will match the performance
of the baseline 5620/6620 rotor. Additionally, the heavy duty rotor has a revised spline fit, which can be
assembled/disassembled at room temperature.

Interchangeability:

All parts are interchangeable with the current 5620/6620 Series Transmissions with the following restrictions:
• For 5620/6620 models beginning with S/N 3110120907, Splitter Output Shaft P/N 29544480 must be used.
• For 5620/6620 models prior to S/N 3110120907, Splitter Output Shaft P/N 29544481 must be used.

If the former reverse carrier assembly is replaced with current Reverse Carrier Assembly P/N 29556895 in a
5620/6620 model with S/N prior to 3110120907, remove Plug P/N 6756030 from the splitter output shaft.
Failure to remove the plug from the splitter output shaft when using the updated reverse carrier assembly can
cause severe transmission damage.

Isotropic finish Splitter Output Shaft P/N 29556631 must be used together with isotropic finish Low Carrier Gears
P/N 29557590. The gears can be replaced as individual components or by installing isotropic finish Low Carrier
Assembly P/N 29556896.
