practicing new skills #2 in editorial that discuss an issue affecting the lives of people.
Editorial is a short essay that shares an individual’s opinion
about current event or social issue. The goal of a good
editorial is to persuade the readers to consider
your perspective and change their opinion. Editorials often
focus on controversial issues with widely different viewpoints.
If the news story does not allow the expression of opinion in
its content, it is in the editorial where a writer may express
his/ her opinion based from the gathered facts and
observations.
Here are the different Types of Editorials with corresponding
example:

Editorial of Interpretive - explains and provides background

information on an event or issue. It aims to raise awareness
and discuss how the topic is relevant to the reader.
Editorial of Criticism - focuses on the various causes of a
problem and suggests a solution. For example,
you might critique a policy that relates your issue in order to
advocate for a specific change.
Editorial of Persuasive- appeals directly to the reader and
encourages them to take action. It focuses on the
reader's ability to change a situation by following your advice.
Editorial of Praising - shows appreciation for a person or
organization based on their involvement in an
issue.
Editorial of Argumentation - a stand on a controversial
issue whether in favor or contrary.

products by either grinding
them into fine powder or
shredding them. The
powder is used as filler.
The shreds can be used as
insulation in quilted jackets
and sleeping bags. In
households, plastic items
can be separated from
other waste materials. The
plastic materials can be
donated or sold to plastic
manufacturers. Another
proposal is to use only
plastics that are
biodegradable (those that
break down through the
action of microorganism).
Some plastics are
photodegradable. This
means that they break
down through long
exposure of sunlight.
Today, there are trash
bags, foam cups, and other
biodegradable plastics. But
environmental groups look
at these products with
distrust. They argue that
even under the best
conditions, plastic products
leave plastic residue behind
and these will not break
down all when buried in
landfills. They also feel that
the chemicals added to
make plastic
biodegradable. Also make
the plastics unfit for
recycling. For good or bad,
the use of plastics has
brought humankind to a
turning point.

educational TV shows, local

everyone can be entertained
by watching cartoons,

films. On the other hand,
watching TV has some definite
negative effects. Some people
watch television rather than
face their immediate and
urgent problems and cares. It
keeps others to their lonesome
selves instead of spending
time with their family and
engaging in other productive
pastime like reading good
books and magazines. It turns
some people into lazybones,
keeping the away from any
physical activity. Furthermore,
TV leads people far from life’s
realities. It does not distinguish
wants from needs. It even
transforms wants into needs
and often pairs happiness with
products we need to buy. It
portrays violence in a positive
light that some people tend to
think that violence is already
part of our culture and inherent
part of real life.
