petrol in the tank. Georgina is going to fill up the petrol tank. The price of petrol is 115.9p per litre. Georgina
has a voucher that gives her 3% off the price of petrol. How much does Georgina have to pay for the petrol?
Answer:
Petrol to be filled in tank = 70-20 = 50 litres
Price of petrol = 115.9p/litre
Price of 50 litres petrol = 115.9 x 50 = 5795
Discount = 3% of 5795
3
= 100 x 5795 = 173.85
Amount to be paid = 5795 – 173.85 = 5621.15
Q6. James bought a house. In the first year the value of the house decreased by 10%. In the second year the
value of the house increased by 10%.
Is the house worth more, less, or the same as what James paid for it? Explain your answer.
Answer:
Let the price of house be 100
After 1st year, price decreased by 10%
Price after one year = 100 – 10% of 100
= 100 – 10 = 90
After 2nd year, price increased by 10%
Price after two years = 90 + 10% of 90
= 90 + 9 = 99
After two years price is 99 and the actual price was 100
House worth is less.
