Advanced Steel Drums


OBJECTIVE(S) :“ Students will be able to play correct notes and rhythms during
rehearsed section in “Yellow Bird”, “Tequila”, “Limbo Rock”, “Iko Iko”, “Spanish
Harlem”, “Guantanamera”, and “Spin Cycle”
PROCEDURE:
1. Warm up with Role Big C, D, and E
2. Listening to chord structure
3. Make sure hands are wrapping
4. Warm up with “Tequila”
5. Running all songs
6. Continue working on “Spin Cycle”
ASSESSMENT : Teacher will visually and aurally assess students

Wind Ensemble
OBJECTIVE(S) :“ Students will be able to play musically with good tone/tonality,
correct notes, and rhythms during rehearsed section in “Down by the Salley
Gardens”, “Danse Antiqua”, and “Espana Cani”
PROCEDURE:
1. Tuning
2. Warm up with B flat concert scale. Focus on tonality, strive for that “blended
sound”
3. E flat, A flat, F, C scales – Legato Style and Staccato Style.
4. Work exclusively on “Danse Antiqua”. Concentrate on playing with correct
notes, rhythms, and articulations.
5. Run “Espana Cani”. Focus on steady beat and tempo.
ASSESSMENT : Teacher will visually and aurally assess students
Beginning Band
OBJECTIVE(S) :“ Students will be able to play correct notes, steady beat, correct
rhythm, and good tone during rehearsed section in the Green Book (Habits of A
Successful Beginner Band Musician) and The Essential Elements for Band.
PROCEDURE:
1. Students play B flat concert pitch, while teacher get off the podium and
circulate through players
2. Check for posture, embouchure, breath, hand positions, and fingering.
3. Assign students to a specific rhythm and play that rhythm on B flat concert
pitch
4. Working on line 32 and 35 in the Green Book
5. Focus on correct notes, correct rhythms, and steady beat.
ASSESSMENT : Teacher will visually and aurally assess students

Concert Band
OBJECTIVE(S) :“ Students will be able to play correct notes and rhythms, with
good tones and correct embouchure during rehearsed section in “Imperium”,
“Cubano Bueno” and the Green Book (Habits of A Successful Beginner)
PROCEDURE:
1. Tuning
2. Warm up with B flat and A flat scale. Focus on tonality, strive for that
“blended sound”
3. Learning E flat concert scale
4. Working exclusively on “Imperium”. Focus on percussion section
5. Continue working on “Cubano Bueno”
ASSESSMENT : Teacher will visually and aurally assess students
