QUIZ 1:

Find the following then identify their truth values. Show your solution.

Let

1) P(1): 1²/2 = 1

P(1): 1/2 = 1

- 1/2 = 1 is FALSE, therefore P(1) is also FALSE.

2) P(2): 2²/2 = 2

P(2): 4/2 = 2

P(2): 2 = 2

- 2/2 is TRUE, therefore P(2) is also TRUE.

3) where n ∈ D = (-4, -2, 1, 2)

P(-4): (-4)²/2 = -4
P(-4): 16/2 = -4
P(-4): 8 = -4
- This is FALSE

P(-2): (-2)²/2 = -2
P(-2): 4/2 = -2
P(-2): 2 = -2
- This is FALSE
P(1): 1²/2 = 1

P(1): 1/2 = 1

- This is FALSE

P(2): 2²/2 = 2

P(2): 4/2 = 2

P(2): 2 = 2

- This is TRUE. Since only one of them has the truth value of TRUE, the statement

is FALSE.

4) where n ∈ D = (-3, -1, 1, 4)

P(-3): (-3)²/2 = -3
P(-3): 9/2 = -3
- This is FALSE

P(-1): (-1)²/ 2 = -1
P(-1): 1/ 2 = -1
- This is FALSE

P(1): 1²/2 = 1

P(1): 1/2 = 1

- This is FALSE

P(4): 4²/2 = 4

P(4): 16/2 = 4

P(4): 8 = 4
- This is FALSE. Since all of their truth values are FALSE, the statement is
FALSE.

To summarize:
1) P (1) = FALSE

2) P (2) = TRUE

3) where n ∈ D = (-4, -2, 1, 2) = FALSE

4) where n ∈ D = (-3, -1, 1, 4) = FALSE
