VOLUNTEERISM
 An act involving a wide range of activities.
 It provides enabling and empowering environment both
for the beneficiary and the volunteer.
 It is done for reasons that arose from:
1. Socio developmental, business, or corporate
orientation.
2. Commitment or conviction to attain public good.
3. Money and other incentives are NOT the primary
motivating factors.

MOTIVATING FACTORS THAT LEAD


INDIVIDUALS TO VOLUNTEER
1. VALUES - A person may volunteer because they feel
it is important to help others or to participate in their
community.
2. UNDERSTANDING - Some volunteers may be
motivated to understand more about their community
or learn through hands-on experience.
3. ENHANCEMENT - Others may volunteer as they feel
the work will develop or enhance them as a person
and help them to feel better about themselves.
4. CAREER - Some people may volunteer as they feel it
will assist them to gain the career or promotion they
desire.
5. SOCIAL - People may volunteer for social reasons,
they may wish to network with people who share
common goals or gain new friends.
6. PROTECTION - People may volunteer to help protect
themselves by reducing their own negative feelings or
to have temporary escape from their own problems.

TYPES OF VOLUNTEERISM
1. FORMAL - It is structured and supervised.
2. GOVERNANCE - It provides leadership and direction.
3. NON-FORMAL - It is done in local communities.
4. SOCIAL ACTION - It is for a common advocacy or
goal.
5. PROJECT – BASED - It involves clearly defined goals
delivered at defined schedules.
6. INTERNSHIP YEAR - It is for young people
to experience culture overseas and offer free services.
7. ONLINE VOLUNTEERING - It provides opportunity to
volunteer without being physically present.
8. MICRO – VOLUNRTEERING - It consists of small
actions online for a cause.

Role of NSTP-CWTS students as volunteers in


community-based works:
1. Spread the good
2. Introduce fresher perspectives
3. Foster lifelong engagement
