Toast For A New Job - Remi Lin 411110208
May 7, 2024
To my dear Tim, since it is the night before you start your new occupation, I feel the
obligation to congratulate you now. I have seen you work really hard since you were in high
school. You have changed your future goals several times, which frightened your parents
deeply. You quit the university for your dream and retook the entrance exam though you only
have a half year to prepare for it. You walked through these hardships all alone. I witnessed
the process, including your doubts and your ideal for art. Though I do not usually agree with
the concept of “pure art,” I am impressed by your accomplishments. As a new media art
major, you created so many artworks that are out of my imagination. Even though your
parents didn’t support you, you never gave up on your dreams. You took up part-time work
and even became the apprentice of a workshop to buy all the design materials that were
required for your art projects. You have to work while doing all the design, which is too
stressful for most of us, but you went through the path alone. I will not say that you are the
most diligent person on this island, but we all agree that you deserve to be called a
workaholic. When your first solo exhibition was held in the small gallery in Taichung, we set
up the venue together. At that time, that seemed to be the biggest thing that ever happened in
our lives. I remember the song that you wrote for that exhibition. It was very similar to the
music of Ryuichi Sakamoto, and we even fought for that. It turned out to be a great success,
which showed us your capability. After the exhibition, we went to Germany. Three years
later, you even became the chief creator of your senior project exhibition. The boy who
comes from the middle of nowhere now has turned into a shining star in the field of new
media art. Look where you have started, and where you are now. You earned these

accomplishments for yourself, and I can’t wait to see your new plans and exhibitions for the
Taipei Art Museum. Being a director of an Art Museum is a huge responsibility, but with
your experience in this field, I believe in your capability. In addition, please remember that
when you encounter hardships, we will always be with you. Let’s raise our glasses and make
a toast to Timothy.
