Body Mechanics

Performing Hand Hygiene Using an Alcohol

8. To remove gown:
a.Unfasten ties, if at the neck
and back.
b.Allow the gown to fall away
from shoulders.
c.Touching only the inside of the

gown, pull away from the torso.
d.Keeping hands on the inner
surface of the gown, pull gown
from arms.
e.Turn gown inside out. Fold or
roll into a bundle and discard.

9. To remove mask or
respirator:

a. Grasp the neck ties or


elastic, then top ties or elastic
and remove.
b. Take care to avoid touching 3

Discard in waste container.
c. If using a respirator, save for
future use in the designated
area.
