SHORT DESCRIPTION:

Promoting literacy is believed to prepare the youth for success.

Beyond the functional level, being literate plays a significant role in
transforming learners into socially engaged learners. Being literate
means being able to communicate effectively, being able to understand
and keep up with current events, and being equipped well enough for
the challenges of life. Indeed, Reading is the pillar of literacy. This
year’s National Reading Month localized theme “Basa Onse: Bawat Bata
Bumabasa” highlighted different activities which participated by the
learners, teachers as well as the parents. The activities showcased the
different skills of learners in any form. DCSS is one of the many
schools in which learners actively participated in the different
classroom activities. The most highlighted activities were Share A
Book through Project KAPIT, Story Retelling and Oral Reading for
children, Board Games, Rap, Tiktok, Book Characterization and the
DEAR(Drop Everything and Read) program.
OBJECTIVES OF THE EVENT:

 To encourage students and learners to read and be literate

 To make reading a shared physical experience, especially for young people
 To boost the relevance of reading in light of their increased reliance on the
internet and inclination to online activities

PRELIMINARIES:

The School Reading and Pagbasa Coordinators led the teachers, class
advisers, academic teachers in encouraging learners, parents, and all teaching
and non-teaching personnel to read stories together during the Nationwide
Synchronized Reading. Parents and personnel bring and share their books for
identified learners as beneficiaries. Learners participate and showcase their
talents in different classroom activities such as story retelling, poetry
interpretation, and readers’ theater. They also showcase their talents in Rap,
Jazz Chant, Scrabble and Word Puzzle. Activities are held inside the classroom
as part of instructional time to avoid disruption of classes.

RESULTS:

The active participation and collaboration of the learners, teachers,

parents, school principal, academic teachers and school personnel highlighted
the success of the different classroom activities of the month-long National
Reading Month Celebration. Learners from all grade levels featured the Book
Character Parade during the culmination activity. Learners wore costumes of
their most cherished characters, connected with the story on a deeper level,
fostering a positive attitude towards reading and books.
