Logitech Video Conferencing

Nowadays, technology dominates our life. We seem to need computers, tablets,

and smartphones in order to function. Technology has exploded on the market in a very
short period of time, and many people today find it impossible to picture life without it.
With the pandemic hitting us globally, these situations help work and life evolve in such
a way that we can continue with our lives with technology even without stepping out of
your home. Witt the use of platforms like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Cisco Webex rise
when providers add capabilities to them, yet many organizations may find that justifiable
given the advantages they provide for conducting business. But using video
conferencing has drawbacks as well. (Chouffani, Reda. 12 advantages and
disadvantages of video conferencing.)

History

Logitech was established in 1981 in Lausanne, Switzerland, and swiftly spread to

Silicon Valley. Through its pioneering computer accessories, which included the infrared
cordless mouse, the thumb-operated trackball, the laser mouse, and more. Pierluigi
Zappacosta, Giacomo Marini, and Chairman Emeritus Daniel Borel are Logitech
founders. Over their initial years, Logitech acquired companies such as Labtec to
broaden its selection of computer accessories (Frankie, Chris. Logitech to Acquire
Labtec for $125 Million), Hillcrest Labs' Freespace for its motion control technology to
create the MX Air Mouse, which enables users to control a PC with natural gestures,
and Ultimate Ears, a provider of custom in-ear monitors for professional musicians and
Bluetooth speakers for the general public. Logitech as an international producer of
software, computer hardware and video conferencing peripherals give users the use of
personal devices for smart homes, video communication, and PC navigation. They have
vast products that cater different individual’s need such as universal remote controls,
Bluetooth speakers, headphones, headsets, cameras, mouse, keyboards, and more.

The concept of transmitting image over wire was introduce in 1870s. (Spence, Jacq.
The History of Video Conferencing from 1870 to Today). The first-ever video call is done
by AT&T back in 1956 though Bell labs done a similar call back in 1927 by having two-
way audio and one-way video connection (Spence, Jacq. The History of Video
Conferencing from 1870 to Today). Virtual meetings in the past were initially for
reaching and communicating with a person to another until it became into a conference.
Video conferencing has evolved beyond the its application from where it was invented.
With change, it comes with the consequence. Firstly, one of the advantages of doing
video conferencing is having increased savings with business continuity ((Chouffani,
Reda. 12 advantages and disadvantages of video conferencing.) Now, everybody has
access to the internet. For working individuals, it is common to have access to a
workstation or a laptop and everybody pretty much own smartphones which enable use
to communicate and probably do work accordingly. Another advantages of doing video
conferencing is to have meetings and not needing to bother thinking about the travel
time to different places as how traditional meetings are conducted. The meeting can be
set at any time in everyone’s availability. Basically, people can join from anywhere. With
people doing more online or virtual meetings, video conferencing raises some concerns.
((Chouffani, Reda. 12 advantages and disadvantages of video conferencing.) One
example would be the lack of personal interactions. Even with video enabled, workers
merely converse via screens. Employees may find it difficult to get to know their
coworkers, managers, or clients and form personal connections with them if there aren't
any face-to-face interactions. Another example would be the reduction of mobility
(Southern, Matt G. Study Finds 4 Negative Effects of Too Much Video Conferencing.)
Video conferencing limit people’s mobility by requiring them to remain inside a field of
vision, so you would in frame at the whole time you’re in a meeting. In addition, the
security and compromise of company polices wherein business information or strategies
can be leaked or unintentional share because of this.
Conclusion

These days, the corporate world of today heavily relies on video conferencing
and virtual event solutions. Multiple offices and remote workers are becoming common
in most working environment. Video conferencing is the technology that allows teams to
conduct meetings and share ideas, thoughts, and other crucial talks. Additionally, it will
increase production as a whole. These effects were made more apparent and most
likely amplified by the COVID-19 epidemic as online activities became a larger part of
most people's daily life. Canadians were divided into internet user categories based on
their online and digital activity data obtained in 2018 and 2020, and their distribution
within these groups was tracked over the pre-pandemic and pandemic periods
(Wavrock, David, Schellenberg, Grant and Schimmele, Christoph. Canadians’ use of the
Internet and digital technologies before and during the COVID-19 pandemic). The
technology changes keep reshaping how a human being live. It changed the way
people do their work and how they communicate. Regardless of the disadvantage
mentioned, there will always be a solution to each of the concerns. Each day, more
people become proficient when it comes using the internet. In return, we develop simple
norms on how we should act and do things with the technology. There will always be
threats and disadvantages when doing certain things. Companies like Logitech don’t
develop these products to interfere or hinder with a human’s day to day activity rather
help become more productive and provide business growth in sustaining quality work
even if doing meetings through online.
