Question:- Discuss any three input and three output devices.
• INPUT DEVICES
1. Keyboard

 Keyboard is the most common and very popular input device which helps to input data to
the computer. The layout of the keyboard is like that of traditional typewriter, although
there are some additional keys provided for performing additional functions.
 Keyboard are of two sizes 84 keys or 101/102 keys, but now keyboards with 104 keys or
108 keys are also available for Windows and Internet.  The traditional QWERTY. First
six letters on top row.

2. Mouse

 Mouse is the most popular pointing device.


 It is a very famous cursor-control device having a small palm size box with a round ball
at its base which senses the movement of the mouse and sends corresponding signals to
the CPU when the mouse buttons are pressed.
 Generally, it has two buttons called the left and the right button and a wheel is present
between the buttons.
 A mouse can be used to control the position of the cursor on the screen but it cannot be
used to enter text into the computer.
3. Scanner

 Scanner is an input device, which works more like a photocopy machine. It is used when
some information is available on paper and it is to be transferred to the hard disk of the
computer for further manipulation.
 Scanner captures images from the source which are then converted into a digital form that
can be stored on a disk. These images can be edited before they are printed.

• OUTPUT DEVICES
1. Monitor

 Monitor are the most popular output device used today for producing soft-copy output.
 A monitor is associated usually with a keyboard and together they form a video display
terminal.
 Two basic types of monitor:-
(1). Cathode Ray Tube (CRT):- The CRT monitor displays images with color that are
consistent and can be viewed with different angles.
(2). Liquid Crystal Display (LCD):- The LCD monitor are thin and they use little space.
They are light in weight, consume less energy.
2. Printer

 The printer is a device that print text document and images on paper.
 It is peripheral output device. Printers can be classified in two groups- impact printers and
non-impact printers.
 There are different types of printers:-
(1). Dot-Matrix:- Dot-Matrix printers are character printers that print one character at a time. They form
character and all kinds of images as patterns of dots.
(2). Inkjet:- Inkjet printers are character printers that form characters and all kinds of images by spraying
small drops of ink on a paper.
(3). Laser Printer:- The Laser printers uses a beam of laser for the purpose of printing and it's consists of
a revolving cylinder that is made up of photoconductive material.

3. Speaker

 A device through which we listen to sound as an outcome of what we command a


computer to do is called a speaker.
 Normal music system speakers are used to output sound. They convert the sound from
electronic form stored in the computer to what the user can understand
 With the advancement in technology, speakers are now available which are wireless and
can be connected using Bluetooth or other application.
Question:- What is mail merge? Discuss its features.
Mail Merge
 Mail merging means sending a bulk of letters with same text to a number of persons
(addresses).
 MS-Word provides a highly useful feature of mail merge.
 Mail merge is the simple way of sending the same letter to many people with their own
address and name appearing on the letter.
 It is useful tool that allows you to produce multiple letters, labels, envelopes, name tags and
more using information stored in a list, database.
 The data source contains names addresses to be inserted in merge feild in the main
document.

Features of Mail Merge:-


 The Mail Merge feature makes it send the name letter to a large number a people.
 By using Mail Merge, we don't have to type each recipient's name separately in each letter.
 We need to proof read only the main document.
 It is economical and saves a lot of time.
 It is one of the fastest ways to produce hundreds of personalised letters.
 It is easy to edit the letter as a single change made in the main letter will be reflected in the
letters meant for all other recipients.
 The Mail Merge feature creates letters, labels, envelopes, and emails all with personalized
data. A merge usually requires two documents—the data source file that contains the
variable information to be inserted, and a main document with the text and fields that
identify where the variable data is to be inserted.
