HISTORY

Hoi An Ancient Town is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port
dating from the 15th to the 19th century. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. The
word “Hoi An” means a peaceful gathering place which reflects the distinctive value of this ancient
town.

LOCATION

Located on the banks of the poetic Thu Bon River, in central Quang Nam province, Hoi An ancient town
is an Eastern oriental classic captivation. With the strategic location on the banks of the great river, it
used to be one of the major trading centers in Southeast Asia during the 16th century .

ATTRACTIONS

The Japanese Bridge is regarded as a beautiful reminder of the town’s long history. Because of the
spriritual and physical values, in 1990, the bridge was recognized as a National Historic – Cultural
Heritage Site.

Located in Hoi An’s Old Town, Hoi An Central Market is the liveliest and largest one around. It’s a must-
do experience not only for food lovers but also for photographers, shoppers, and anyone wanting true
entertainment at pretty much any time of day.

FESTIVAS

Hoi An is one of the most magical places in Asia to celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival. During the
festival, the troupes will perform lion dances to the beat of drums and gongs, children will carry glowing
lanterns through the streets, and every family will gather to enjoy mooncakes.

The Hoi An Lantern Festival is a monthly event that celebrates the full moon on the 14th day of each
lunar month. The lanterns are placed to the river as an offering to God and our ancestors. Along the
river bank, there are folk performances with music and poetry readings.

FOOD

Hoi An cuisine is well-known for a good reason, thanks to its traditional and mouth-watering delicacies.
Especially, on Hoi An street food, you will find the most tasty food such as Quang noodle, Cao Lau or
Banh Xeo. With a reasonable price, you can easily get one of these unique dishes.
