Narrow bee fly is commonly known as Nairobi fly, also called the Kenya fly and they live mainly
in East Africa.
CHARACTERISTICS
They neither sting nor bite its victim.
They are black and red in colour.
They live in moist environment.
They are attracted to lights, and as a result, inadvertently come into contact with
humans.
IMPORTANCE
-They are often beneficial to agriculture because they will eat crop pests.
EFFECTS
Can causes burns to the skin and itching.
- A potent toxin that causes blistering which can cause chemical burns if it comes into contact
with skin due to the juicy liquid that has been released.
-The toxin is released when the beetle is crushed against the skin, often at night, when sleepers
unknowingly brush the insect from their faces.
-After 24-48 hours of crushing it to the skin rushes start to occur. And it can take several weeks
to disappear.
