1) Determine the bearing reactions at A and B for the system shown in figure 1 if the speed is
120 rev/min. Determine the magnitude and angular orientation of the balancing mass if it
is located at a radius of 45 mm. R1 = 25mm,m1 = 2kg R2 = 35mm,m2 =1.5kg and
R3 = 40 mm, m3 = 3kg :

2) Figure 2 shows two weights connected to a rotating shaft. If the shaft rotates at 300
rev/min, what are the magnitudes of the bearing reactions at A and B? Suppose the system is
to be balanced by reducing a mass at a radius of 125 mm. Determine the amount and angular
orientation of the weight to be removed. R1 = 100 mm, m1 = 1.8 kg, R2 = 150 mm, m2 = 1.2 kg

3) The shaft shown in figure 3 is to be balanced by placing masses in the correction planes L
and R. The value of the unbalance masses and their radii are as follows.
R1 = 125 mm, m1 = 0.4 kg , R2 = 100 mm, m2 = 0.3 kg and R3 = 125mm, m3 = 0.4 kg . The
distances between the planes of unbalance are a = 25 mm , b = e = 200 mm , c = 250 mm and
d = 225mm . Calculate the magnitudes of corrections at radii RL = RR = 100 mm and their
angular orientations.

4) A wheel and tire assembly has been run at 100 rpm on a dynamic balancing machine as
shown in figure 4. The force measured at the left bearing had a peak of 22 N at a phase angle
of 45° with respect to the zero reference angle on the tire. The force measured at the right
bearing had a peak of 8.8 N at a phase angle of –120° with respect to the reference zero on
the tire. The center distance between the two bearings on the machine is 0.25 m. The left edge
of the wheel rim is 0.1 m from the centerline of the closest bearing. The wheel is 0.18 m wide
at the rim. Calculate the size and location with respect to the tire’s zero reference angle, of
balance weights needed on each side of the rim to dynamically balance the tire assembly. The
wheel rim diameter is 0.38 m.
