 The following research will be a look at effective and meaningful teaching methods as
seen in the film, “Dead Poets Society” (1989). The movie takes place in a highly conservative
boarding school, and tells the story of a new poetry teacher who helps a class of students to fight
against the monotonous norms and find their meaning in life.

For many years, learning has been a mandatory part of our lives, it is the process of gaining new
skills and knowledge. Without this, it is impossible for us to survive and be successful in this
world. From this, learning is encouraged from a very young age.

Despite the occurrence of various changes in culture and developments in technology, education
is still important as ever. However with the advent of smart devices such as smartphones, which
allows users to have much easier access to all kinds of things such as Google and Instagram, the
attention span of learners is not getting any better. As a matter of fact, they are getting shorter,
and ineffective teaching methods are not helping at all.

With this in mind, it is more important now than ever for teachers to develop more engaging and
meaningful teaching methods for their pupils. In other words, they must get the pupils to be more
involved and actually understand the classes that they are taking. After all, these learners may
very well be the future of this world, so it should be in their best interest to educate them the best
they can, and also to inspire them for many years to come.

Once again, this paper aims to analyze the film, “Dead Poets Society”, and how the film depicts
effective and meaningful teaching methods. That can help bring out the best in the learners and
actually make them enjoy and be invested in the classes that they are taking.
