INTRODUCTION
In learning another language, it is significant to have the target language in use as we can and allow
ourselves to be surrounded by anything related to it in order for us to develop a sense of familiarity
with it and eventually gain expertise of the target language. As a Linguist students that we are, it is
indeed one of the effective way to learn a language as it could fuel the passion of the students in
learning the target language. In our course subject Foreign Language 1 with Korean (or Hangeul) as the
target language, conducting a variety show competition for the students were chosen as a way for them
to adapt the target language. We, 2nd year students from the BAELS program, were assigned to handle
the variety show that will be executed by the 1st year students of the BSHM section Sapphire, as the
output for the finals of both programs.

OVERVIEW
Variety Show, from the term “variety” that means a mixture of different things at the same place or
time, it is a type of entertainment which includes various performances in the same show. Its main
objective is to entertain people with their talents, creativity, wits and gifted attributes different from
each other. In line with the Foreign Language, the students were challenged to make use of the Korean
language all throughout the show to test and make use of the their gained knowledge and to adapt. This
activity also allows the students to showcase their talents that they can’t d o from their other course
subject.

DETAILED PLANNING
Before the planning began, us, BAELS students, did our research to gain ideas how to put up a variety
show and then considered some factors first such as: identifying the judges and audiences, and knowing
the venue or how wide the space where the performances will take place. We brainstormed for ideas
that we can suggest to the performers before approaching the 2 BSHM students taking lead in their
class. On Tuesday, we created a group chat on Messenger with them after we’ve prepared. We started
asking if they already have ideas for their performance and was told none yet and so we proceeded with
sharing the ideas we had. Firstly, we suggested to relate the concept of their show with their program.
Next suggestion was aligned with the first, it is the theme, some songs that could be used and how it will
be executed, both were impressed and told us that they will inform the rest of the class about the plan
then came back with a thumbs up and they started listing the names with their respective roles after.
Saturday will be the actual confirmation of the names and roles on the list of the performers.
