FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE

Florence Nightingale, known as the "Lady with the Lamp," was a pioneering
figure in the field of nursing during the 19th century. Born on May 12, 1820 in
Florence, Italy, she was named in honor of the city of her birth.

Nightingale is best known for her work during the Crimean War (1853-1856).
Horrified by the terrible conditions wounded soldiers faced in military
hospitals, she and a team of nurses she trained implemented strict hygiene
practices and greatly improved sanitation, leading to a significant reduction
in the mortality rate among soldiers. His contributions extended beyond the
battlefield.
She used statistical evidence to advocate for health care reform and played a
crucial role in establishing the first formal nursing school, the Nightingale
Training School at St.
Thomas in London.
Throughout her life, Nightingale continued to advocate for better standards
of medical care, public health policy, and nursing education. She passed away
on August 13, 1910, leaving a legacy that profoundly influenced the nursing
profession and healthcare systems around the world.
