1. Drill/ Review The class will be divided into two (2) groups wherein the students will play a short
game consisting of three (3) items about composition of function. The first group
who got to answer first will earn the point. The group that have the highest total
score would be given 5 points while the other group will be receiving 2 points.

Questions:

f(x) = 2x+6 g(x) = 3x-5 h(x) = 6x

(1) f(g(x)) =
(2) g(h(x)) =
(3) f(x) + g(x) =

2. Motivation Having the same group, the students will play a game entitled Comparison of
Values. (Integration to Elementary Math)

Game Mechanics:

1. If the values in the left are larger than the values in the right, the group in the left
will stand up and the group in the right will remain seated.
2. If the values in the right are larger than the values in the left, the group in the
right will stand up and the group in the left will remain seated.
3. If both values are equal, then both groups will stand up.

3. Presentation of Wrap up the motivation part by correlating the activity with the idea of equation,
Objectives inequality and function.

Say: What do you think class is the correlation of the activity to our lesson today?

Students will try to guess the topic by reflecting on the activity.

Say: Very good! The activity shows different symbols like greater than, lesser than
and equal. The greater than and lesser than signs shows the inequality symbol.
Meanwhile, the equal sign show the equality symbol. In line with that, our
discussion for today will be all about Rational Function, Equation and Inequality.
At the end of the lesson, you are all expected to…

Students will read the objectives flashed in the screen.

B. Developmental Process students’ outputs from the motivation part by asking the following
Activities / Lesson questions:
Proper A. What is the difference between rational and irrational expressions?
B. How are we going to distinguish rational function, rational equation and rational
inequality?

Students will try to answer the questions.

Say: A rational expression can be expressed as a ratio of integers take for example
fractions. Meanwhile, irrational expression is a real number that cannot be
expressed as a ratio of integers; for example, √2 is an irrational number.

Sample Exercise: Determine which of the following are rational expressions.

Say: A rational equation or inequality can be solved for all x values that satisfy the
equation or inequality. Whereas we solve an equation or inequality, we do not
“solve” functions. Rather, a function (and in particular, a rational function)
expresses a relationship between two variables (such as x and y), and can be
represented by a table of values or a graph.

Sample Exercise: Determine whether the given is a rational function, rational

equation, a rational inequality, or none of these.

x+1
1. 2x = 10 Answer: rational equation

2. f(x) = -5x3 - 4 x − 1 Answer: none of these

x+1
3. 2x ≤ 10 Answer: rational inequality

x−1
4.f x = x+1 Answer: rational function

Say: Now let’s proceed to solving rational equations. Given this rational equation
x+1
such 2x = 10, how are we going to solve for “x”?

Challenge the class to provide as many solutions and non-solutions as they can.

Say: To solve rational equations :

a) Eliminate denominators by multiplying each term of the equation by the least
common denominator.
b)Note the eliminating denominators may introduce extraneous solutions. Check the
solutions of the transformed equations with the original equation.

Discuss examples and show solutions on the board.

Example 2. Solve for x : x − 2x = 5

The LCD of all denominators is 10x. Multiply both sides of the equation by 10x and
solve the resulting equation.

C. Culminating
Activities

1. Exercises The students will be divided into five (5) groups. Each group will be given an
activity sheet having two parts. In the first part, the students will color the heart with
yellow if it is a rational function, blue, red and orange if the expressions are rational
equation, rational inequality and none of these respectively.

In the second part, the students will solve for the rational equation by finding the
value of x.

(Integration to Arts)

After answering the activity sheet for 6 minutes, the students will report and explain
their answers in front of their classmates.

2. Application The teacher will explain the importance of equation to real life scenarios.

Activity: The students will find the missing “x” integrating it to the fields of
biology, english and cookery.

Say: Mathematics teach us patience and perseverance. It also enables us to think

critically and also encourage us to make ethical decisions. Furthermore, solving
rational equations, is like finding the missing links in our life. All of us has this hole
in our hearts, a love that we are trying to find in this world, but none of this world
could fill that void. The lover of our soul, Jesus, who is love Himself, is the only
one who could complete us. He is the only one who could satisfy us.

(Integration to Biology, English, Cookery and Values Education)

Quiz: (1/4 sheet of Paper)

D. Evaluation
Determine whether the given is a rational function, rational equation, a rational
inequality, or none of these.
