The Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (abbreviated as MGM) was founded in __________, in Hollywood, California. In its

film made history. The film received eight Oscars including Best Picture, Best
Director, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress (for
Hattie McDaniel - the first time a black person had been nominated and honored).
The movie is based the novel “Gone with the Wind”, by Margaret Mitchell,
and tells the story of beautiful and rebellious Scarlett O’Hara, and her problems
with money, love and family during the American Civil War.
In 1936, David O. Selznick decided that he wanted to produce a movie based
on the novel, so he bought the novel rights for $ 50.000, a very high price at
the time, and started production. Vivien Leigh, a young British actress, played
the part of Scarlett O’Hara. Her opposite role, that of handsome and romantic
Rhett Butler, was played by Hollywood legend Clark Gable.
The film was shown for the first time in Atlanta on December 15th, 1939.
An estimated production cost of four million dollars was required, but the film
paid it back. It has become the highest money-making movie of all time,
reaching the $ 200 million profit. “Gone with the Wind” was a great hit and is
still considered as one of the greatest films ever made.

southern lady, who tries to survive and find love after the Civil War.
Gone with the Wind is considered the second favorite book of American readers,
just behind the Bible. More than 30 million copies have been printed worldwide.
