INFORMATION SYSTEM TOPIC LIBRARY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

OBJECTIVE

The general objective of this study is to design and develop a library management system
that will serve as a proposal to help librarians save time with the automation of its daily
operation. For example, specific objectives to computerize record keeping of books and to
allow librarians to retrieve complete information of the book and its borrowers. The details
of the books also have author, publication, branch, price, student name, days, issue date
and penalty status. The process of borrowing and returning of book which is:

Borrowing: For each member who borrows a book, the system stores book ISBN, user ID,
date issued, branch, publication, days. Again, all borrowing data should be stored into a
separate file. Also the number of available copies for that book should be decremented.

Returning Book: When a user return a borrowed book back to the library, the entry for his
borrowing action must be updated with the date returned. Also for book entry; the number
of available copies of the book must be incremented.

PROJECT SCOPE

The project is specifically designed for the use of librarian and library user/student in
Islamic Science University of Malaysia (USIM)

GOALS

The main purpose of this system is to manage library daily operation efficiently and the
system will store all the books and member information that consist book number, book
title, author names and racks to the system database. It also provides search function to
help students find the book by number of book. Besides, the another goals also want make
it interesting and keep it clear and concise.

BUSINESS MODEL

My library management system has two function which is librarian functionalities

(responsible person who run the system and administrator of the whole system) and
student or member functionalities. Below is a list of activities available in the library
management system for librarian and student functionalities.

First, librarian Functionalities:

 Add Publication
 Add book stock
 Add branch
 Add student
 Issue books
 Return books
 Penalty

The Librarian has a username and password to access the system. After login he has to first
add publication detail in to system and then enter all the detail of book stock. In our system
librarian can make entry of student who are the members of our system. Librarian can
register all students with valid personal detail and generate username and password for
each student for login into system. Librarian issue books to registered student and get
return from them. He has rights to make a penalty for late return book.

Meanwhile, student/member functionalities:

 Book reports
 Penalty status
 Account

The Student is a registered member of library system. All student has unique username and
password to access his account. After login student can access his account detail, they can
see the borrowed book report and penalty report.
