Reading Class Syllabus: 9th Grade 3rd quarter 2024

Class: Reading (Comprehension and Critical Thinking)

Instructor: Ms. Castro

Description: This course is designed to enhance reading comprehension skills and


foster critical thinking abilities. Through the exploration of various texts, students will
develop strategies for effective reading, interpretation, and analysis.

Textbooks and Materials:

 A variety of fiction and non-fiction texts from book provided by teacher


 Writing materials (notebooks, pens)
 Assignment Portafolio; use a binder to collect homeworks and project once
presented and checked to use it as evidence for your progress at the end of the
quarter. Write your personal info and decorate it.
 Worksheets and other material provided by class teacher.

Grading:

 Class Participation and classwork: 30%


 Exam: 20%
 Project: 15%
 Homework: 20%

 Comprehensive exam covering key concepts, literary devices, and reading


strategies covered in class.

Project Title: "Literary Journey Exhibition"

Instructions:

1. Passage Selection:
 Each student selects a passage of their choice from textbook or workbook.
2. Reading and Annotation:
 Students read the selected passage actively, taking notes, and annotating
key word and phrases.
3. Character and Plot Analysis:
 Analyze the main characters and the plot structure of the passage.
 Create character profiles, including physical and personality traits.
 Develop a visual representation of the plot (plot diagram).
4. Setting:
 Explore the setting in the passage.
 Create visual representations (drawings, collages) to depict the passage
environment.
5. Literary Elements:
 Identify and analyze if there are literary elements in the passage and write
the evidence.
6. Artifact Creation (Week 15-16):
 Based on their analysis, create artifacts representing different aspects of
the passage (e.g., character portraits, thematic collages, storyboard, etc).
7. Summary:
 Create a summary on the passage.
