1. Afrikaans

1.1 Diverse Proficiency Levels


● Challenge: Not all learners have the same foundation of prior knowledge with
Afrikaans.
● Objective: Find ways to help learners on their different linguistic levels.
● Action Plan/Strategy:
○ Keep a high standard for different proficiencies.
○ Individually assist learners with no/lower range of knowledge.
● Performance Indicators:
○ The speed of learners working in class.
○ Increased engagement.
○ Positive feedback from learners.
○ Independency with class work.
● Specific resources:
○ Assessment tools for language proficiency.
○ Additional resources, such as worksheets, online exercises, for learners
who are behind.
● Target Date: Term 3, and will reassess with parent-teacher meetings.

1.2 Limited Motivation


● Challenge: Some learners do not find Afrikaans engaging or relevant.
● Objective: Make sure that any media or materials are inclusive and try to
incorporate a more diverse set of examples.
● Action Plan/Strategy:
○ Introduce interactive and engaging activities such as games, storytelling,
and PowerPoint presentations to enhance class involvement.
● Performance Indicators:
○ Higher levels of participation.
○ Improved individual performance.
○ Increased use of Afrikaans outside the classroom.
○ Positive feedback from learners expressing enjoyment in learning
Afrikaans.
● Specific resources:
○ Culturally relevant teaching materials.

○ Videos showcasing the practical use of Afrikaans in real life.

1.3 Assessment and Evaluation


● Challenge: Designing effective assessments to measure language proficiency
and progress.
● Objective: Prepare learners thoroughly before any assessment needs to take
place and provide timely feedback to guide learners.
● Action Plan/Strategy:
○ Provide clear assessment criteria and communicate expectations to
learners before, during, and after the assessment takes place.

○ Clear improvement in performance.
○ Effective use of assessments.
○ Feedback received on assessments.

2. Creative Arts

2.1 Larger class sizes


● Challenge: The larger classes seem to have a lower passing rate, than the
smaller classes. This is specific to grade 8 and grade 9 classes.
● Objective: Enable learners to work in bigger groups.
● Action Plan/Strategy:
○ Group learner desks into clusters for easier collaborative activities.
○ Use cooperative learning strategies and technology for online discussions,
interactive quizzes. Check in group by group with activities.
● Performance Indicators:
○ Learners able to work in bigger groups.
○ Better use of technology within the classroom and between learners.
● Specific resources:
○ Acquired learning materials and resources.
○ Worksheets or activities that include working in groups for classes.
● Target Date: Improvement by Term 3

2.2 Integration of Technology


● Challenge: Integrating technology into the Creative Arts learning process.
● Objective: Better use of technology in class and improvement in creativity for
learners who prefer this style of artistic medium.
● Action Plan/Strategy:
○ Explore the opportunity for AI and technology to form part of class
activities, not just formal assessments.
○ Identify and start using artistic apps, online platforms, and resources that
align with the curriculum. Provide training for learners in class to explore
these.
● Performance Indicators:
○ Better use of technology in class.
○ Improvement in creativity for learners who prefer this style of artistic
medium.
○ Positive feedback from learners.
○ All necessary activities are done by all learners.
● Specific resources:
○ Access to computers or tablets for both teachers and learners.
○ Educational language learning apps and software.
○ Training resources for teachers on effective technology integration.
● Target Date: Term 2, to make sure all learners have devices.

2.3 Cultural and Linguistic Diversity


● Challenge: Teaching learners from diverse backgrounds sensitively within
Creative Arts topics.
● Objective: Increase contributions from learners of diverse backgrounds and
increase understanding and appreciation of others between the learners.
● Action Plan/Strategy:
○ Teach learners how to be more inclusive and culturally sensitive by
addressing differences in a formal and professional manner in class.
○ Use and incorporate diverse references and examples into lessons to
create an inclusive learning environment.
○ Encourage learners to share their personal experiences and backgrounds.

○ Increase of contributions from learners of diverse backgrounds.
○ Increased understanding and appreciation of others between the learners.

○ Diversity examples and references in teaching materials.

2.4 Balancing Curriculum Demands

● Challenge: Balancing curriculum demands for two topics in Creative Arts within
limited time frames.
● Objective: Consistent coverage of main topics in lessons and noticeable progress
in learners' work.
● Action Plan/Strategy:
○ Design a flexible lesson plan that allocates sufficient time to each topic
and their information.
○ Prioritize lessons that contain information for assessments, but review and
adjust the curriculum to meet the needs of learners and the growth of their
knowledge.
● Performance Indicators:
○ Consistent coverage of main topics in lessons.
○ Noticeable progress in learners' work.
○ Positive feedback after activities.

○ ATP or CAPS to edit, nearby.
○ Lesson planning resources.
