ANNEX D 3. TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM OF CONTROL UNIT 3.1. ELECTRICAL SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM

OF THE PUMP

The electrical schematic diagram of the pump is presented

in the Annex A. Diagrams of the pump are composed of the
following main parts:
w keyboard;
w drives;
w electronic board B7030;
w control unit.

u 3.1.2. Keyboard
The keyboard contains the two groups of switches which
are identical and alarm switch off key which is common for
each channel.
Each channel of the keyboard is composed of 8 keys in form
of a matrix having 8 inputs and 1 output. Scanning of the
keyboard and reading of information from it are performed
by electronic board B7030. The keys ON/OFF control the
circuits of electronic power supply switches located on the
electronic board B7030.

u 3.1.3. Drives
The stepper motor SM-A (SM-B) rotates the lead screw with
a nut on it converting rotating movement of the motor to
linear movement of the tube. The tube supported by four
guiding bearings is connected to the syringe pusher. Marginal
positions of the tube with syringe pusher are limited by:
w limit switch S1-A (S1-B) at the right extreme position
which is actuated by the end of the tube;
w The pre-alarm switch S3-A, S3-B is activated when the
distance between syringe finger flange and syringe thumb
rest is equal to 45 mm. When the pre-alarm switch has
been activated, the pump calculates distance to the end
46 7

of appropriate syringe. Based on this there are calculated
and activated the following warning messages:

where X ≤ 5 min.
and

SYRINGE EMPTY!

w rotational optical sensor TAX-A (TAX-B) at the left ex-

treme position when the tube covers the raster of rotat-
ing coupling of the optical sensor TAX-A (TAX-B).
In case of occlusion when pressure in the syringe increases to
the prohibited level, it stops movement of the syringe pusher
and at the same rotation of the stepper motor SM-A (SM-B).
Rotation of the stepper motor is controlled by the optical
sensor TAX A (TAX B) which reads a signal reflected from
the raster of rotational coupling. This signal is fed to the
microprocessor U4, U18 located on the electronic board
B7030, and this signal switches on the emergency signal.
There is some delay between beginning of occlusion on one
hand and stepper motor SM-A (SM-B) stopping and emer-
gency signal actuation on the other hand depending on in-
fusion rate, length, thickens and elasticity of extension tube.
In case of occlusion the stepper motor SM-A (SM-B) ex-
ecutes some number of steps back depending on syringe
type.This reduced pressure in the syringe and extension tube
and at the same time reduces unwanted Bolus volume in-
jected to the patient when the cause of occlusion is removed.

3.2. ELECTRICAL SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM

OF ELECTRONIC BOARD B7030

The electrical schematic diagram of electronic board B7030

is shown in the annex B.
It is composed of the following main parts:
8 45

ANNEX D w microprocessor circuits;
w „watch-dog” circuit;
w power supply;
w
SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM OF CONTROL UNIT

stabilized power supplies;

w electronic power-supply switch circuits.

u 3.2.1. Microprocessor circuits

There is used the 89C52RD2 microprocessor U4 (U18)
having internal RAM of 1kB for data, flash memory of 64
kB for software and EEPROM of 2kB for fixed data.
Clock frequency for microprocessor is set by the quartz reso-
nator Q1 (Q2) of 12,288 MHz. The microprocessor U4
(U18) via port P0 and register U6 (U16) generates pulses
for step motor control, controls the buzzer. Also via port P0
and register U1 (U20) it writes information to display MD1
and scans the keyboard in the control unit. Information from
the keyboard is read via register U8 (U15) to port P1.

u 3.2.2. “Watch-dog” circuit

The special „Watch-dog” circuit monitors operation of the
microprocessor U4 (U18). In case of disturbances in micro-
processor U4 (U18) operation, this circuit prevents func-
tioning of the pump, stops the motor and activates audible
alarm. The basis of “Watch-dog” circuit is monostable
multivibrator U2A (U12A), U2B (U12B) and the trigger
U9A (U13A). They compose the frequency discriminator
with pass-band of 500 Hz to 2 kHz.

u 3.2.3. Power supply

Voltage from the secondary winding of the transformer TR1
reduced to 10—11 VAC is rectified by the diode bridge D13
and capacitor C42, C51 (11—13,5 VDC) and via the fuse
F3 is fed to the remaining part of the circuit. The resistor
R12 (R31) sets the charging current for the rechargeable bat-
teries GBA, GBB which shall be in range of (70—130) mA.
When the pump is powered from the internal battery, power
supply current goes via the diode D3 (D7).The fuse F1 (F2)
protects batteries by limiting charging and load currents.
44 9
SEP-21S Plus double syringe infusion pump Service manual
There is fed a signal to the electronic board B7030 via the
resistor R46 informing the pump is powered from the ex-
ternal mains of 50/60 Hz, 220—230 VAC.

u 3.2.4. Stabilized power supplies

There are used two stabilized +5VDC voltages Vcc1B
(Vcc1A) and Vcc2B (Vcc2A).The voltage Vcc1B (Vcc1A) is
supplied to the microprocessor U4 (U18), “Watch-dog” cir-
cuit and electronic power supply switch.When powering of
the pump is switched off by means of the key ON/OFF,
voltage Vcc1B (Vcc1A) goes down to 2V (voltage Vcc2B
(Vcc2A) becomes equal to 0V). This residual voltage helps
for internal RAM of the microprocessor to store informa-
tion on programmed and current infusion parameters.
The IC U10 (U11) is the voltage stabilizer. The transistor
T3 (T4) is a current amplifier and the transistor T2 (T5) is
a power supply switch.
Adjustable resistor R16 (R23) sets threshold for emergency
signal actuation on discharge of batteries GB-B (GB-A) (volt-
age on pin 7 of the IC U10 (U11) shall go down from +5V
to 0V when battery voltage drops to 9.2V).

u 3.2.5. Electronic power-supply switches

The trigger U9B (U13B) of D-type changes its status each
time when the key ON/OFF is pressed. Its output signals
control the power supply stabilizer and switch the micro-
processor U4 (U18) to mode of low power consumption
or to normal mode.These signals via capacitor C20 (C68)
generate start (reset) pulse for processor U4 (U18).

ANNEX C 3.3. ELECTRICAL SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM
OF CONTROL UNIT

ASSEMBLY DRAWING OF ELECTRONIC The electrical schematic diagram of control unit is shown
BOARD B7030 in the annex D.
It is composed of the following main parts:
w display circuits;
w stepper motor control circuits.

u 3.3.1. Display circuit

Information to display MD1 (MD2) (addresses and data)
is written from the port P0 of microprocessor U4 (U18) via
register U1 (U20) located on the electronic board B7030.
The resistors R1, R4 (R16, R17) sets current via transistor
T1 (T4) and at that same time current for backlighting
LED of display MD1 (MD2).This current shall be equal to
70±5 mA when backlighting is switched on and 10±2 mA
when backlighting is switched off.The backlighting current
is controlled by the signal from microprocessor U4 (U18)
which via register U8 (U15) located in the electronic board
B7030 is fed to the base of T1 (T4).

u 3.3.2. Stepper motor control circuit

The microprocessor U4 (U18) via register U6 (U16) (lo-
cated on the electronic board B7030) generates phase pulses
controlling the driver TD62064 U1 (U2).The driver switches
4 phases of the step motor SM-A (SM-B). In time of each
phase pulse the processor via integrator R8 (R20), C3 (C9)
and via transistors T3 (T8), T2 (T7) shapes the pulse for
step motor powering. The Zener diode D2 (D24) protects
outputs of IC U1 (U2) against inductive overvoltage spikes.
