Art attack
The FBI has recently reported that people 0 __ steal great works of art are finding it more and more difficult to sell
the items. However, it also comments that this activity is still worth an estimated $6 billion a year worldwide.
When Chicago police entered the 1 __ of John Sisto in 2007, they found his house full of almost $10 million of Italian
art and most of it was stolen. There 2 __ letters from kings, ancient documents from popes and pottery from the
sixth century B.C. After a two-year FBI investigation, approximately 1,600 pieces of stolen Sisto art were returned to
Italy.
Other thefts have included Picasso’s sketches – this bright red notebook full of 33 of Picasso’s pencil drawings,
worth $11 million, was stolen 3 __ a Paris museum in 2009. Picasso has always been a popular target for art thieves.
Munch’s Scream, the expressionist painting of a man standing in front of a dark red sky, was also stolen in 2004
from an Oslo museum by a group of men armed 4 __ guns. The robbery took place during the day and the thieves
even left a note for the police.
In 2008, three armed men stole four 5 __ from a Swiss museum. These included works of art by Cézanne, Degas,
Van Gogh and Monet. It was one of the most dramatic art robberies in European history.
