Personal Reflection about John 21: 1-14

The disciples, who may have felt lost after Jesus's crucifixion, are shown in the scene going back
to their previous occupation of fishing. Still, they are unsuccessful in catching anything all night
long. Jesus shows up on the beach at their moment of frustration and doubt, providing direction
that results in an enormous amount of fish. This amazing catch is a moving metaphor for the
bounty of blessings and direction that Jesus bestows on those who stick with Him—even during
uncertain and perplexing times.

The encounter of the disciples by the Sea of Galilee serves as a reminder of the transformational
potential of faith and obedience. They blindly follow Jesus's instructions in spite of their initial
failure, and their obedience produces an incredible result. This story illustrates how crucial trust
and surrender are to our relationship with Christ. It challenges us to consider whether we are
willing to put our faith in His direction even when it seems difficult or unexpected.

This verse also emphasizes Jesus' constant presence in our lives, particularly in times of change
and uncertainty. In the same manner that Jesus showed up for the disciples in their hour of need,
He still shows up for us in strange ways, giving us direction, support, and comfort. We are
encouraged by this experience to put more faith in Jesus' fidelity and to keep an open mind to
how He can change our life—even in the face of adversity and uncertainty.
