MRI OF LEFT KNEE

Technique:
Multiplanar, multiecho MR of the knee joint was performed. In addition to T1W, T2W, STIR
and GRE images in sagittal, coronal and axial neutral positions.
Clinical History:
C/O LEFT KNEE JOINT PAIN FROM 8 DAYS,RTA ON 29th JUNE
MILD SWELLING AND RESTRICTED FLEXION AND EXTENSION MOVEMENT OF LEFT LEG
Findings:
CRUCIATE LIGAMENTS :-
Hyperintense signal is noted along the femoral attachment of anterior cruciate
ligament with loss of continuity of fibres s/o near complete ACL tear
Posterior cruciate ligaments appear intact with normal tibial and femoral
attachments and reveal normal signal intensity. No evidence of tear.
COLLATERAL LIGAMENTS
Lateral and medial collateral ligaments appear normal. No evidence of laxity or
tear.
MENISCUS:-
Horizontal signal is noted in body and posterior horn of medial meniscus not
reaching upto inferior articular margins s/o Grade II signal
Horizontal linear signal intensity is seen in posterior horn of lateral meniscus,
not reaching upto articular surface s/o Grade II signal
MUSCLES:-
Popliteal muscle and tendon appear normal. The quadriceps tendon and
ligamentum patellae appear normal. The Hoffa`s fat pad appears normal.
OSSEOUS STRUCTURE:-
STIR hyperintense marrow signal are seen in both medial and lateral femoral
condyles and lateral tibial condyle s/o marrow edema/contusion.
Patella appears normal in position.

cartilage.
No obvious intraarticular loose bodies are seen.
Mild joint effusion is noted extending up to the suprapatellar bursa. Periarticular
soft tissue swelling is noted.
IMPRESSION:
Bony marrow edema/ contusions in both medial and lateral femoral
condyles and lateral tibial condyle
Near complete ACL tear near femoral attachment
Grade II signal in posterior horn and body of medial meniscus
Grade II signal in posterior horn of lateral meniscus
Mild joint extending upto the suprapatellar bursa
