wants to move to the UK to be unemployed and benefit from
public funding, such as Universal Credit. But what most of
them don’t see is how immigrants help UK’S economy. And how
happy they are to be living in a country where you can dream?

According to International Students House, as of June
2022, there were an estimated over 10 million people in
England and Wales who were not born in the UK, which accounts
for around 15% of the total UK population. Using official
statistics, around 300,000 (three hundred thousand) immigrants
arrive in the UK every year, and all of them are here for
different reasons.

INTERVIEWER
Quick reminder for the viewer – an immigrant is someone
who travels to a foreign country with the intention of
settling there forever, while a migrant refers to someone
entering a new country with the intention of going back to
your home country in the future.

General B-roll of Westbourne

NARRATOR (voice-over)
A study made by The Migration Observatory in 2023, shows
that 32% of people thought immigration was a bad thing, while
52% thought numbers should be reduced. But why?

NARRATOR
According to London’s Global University, between 2001 and
2011, immigrants from outside the EU countries made a net
contribution of about £5.2 billion. In contrast, natives made
a negative fiscal contribution of over £600 billion. Their
analysis suggests that rather than being a drain on the UK’s
fiscal system – immigrants have made net contributions to its
public finances.

Time-lapse of Bournemouth Beach

NARRATOR
The majority of Brazilians in the UK live in and around
London. In 2007 community groups estimated that around 150,000
(one hundred fifty thousand) Brazilians were likely to be
living in the London area. It’s estimated that around 20,000
(twenty thousand) Brazilians reside in the Midlands, the
majority being in Birmingham. Surprisingly, Brighton was home
to an estimated 10,000 (ten thousand) Brazilians in 2005.
The Brazilian consulate in London estimated that in 2020,
there were 220,000 Brazilians living in the UK, making it the
second country in Europe with most habitants from Brazil, only
behind Portugal. While is unsure how many Brazilians live in
Bournemouth, in 2022 an estimated 73,000 (seventy-three
thousand) non-UK residents live in Bournemouth, making it
18.3% of the total population, which is way above the average
for the UK. Most of them reported their country of birth is a
South American country, but Bournemouth is also extremely
popular amongst Asian and Indian immigrants.

EXT. STREET DAY

NARRATOR
Bournemouth is indeed the home of a lot of Brazilians. It even
has Brazilians restaurants and parties. But there are things
you can’t replace when moving to a completely different
country.

EXT. STREET DAY

NARRATOR (voice-over)
According to World Data, Brazil has a population of over 200
million people, while the UK has a population of around 66
million people. On the other hand, Brazilians rate their
quality of life 283 out of 600, with the main problem being
cost of living. Britain, on the other hand, believe that their
quality of life is 348 out of 600, with the main problem
being, with no surprises, the weather.

INT. LIVING ROOM DAY

INTERVIEWER
As a Brazilian I can say that the biggest problem with Brazil
is the corruption. While I was doing some research about the
differences between Brazil and Britain, I hardly found
anything complaining about corruption. Statistics shows that
the corruption index of Brazil is 64 (bad) while in the UK is
29 (good).
The main problem in the UK is the weather and the comparison
between these two countries shows this even more. In Brazil
the average daytime temperature is around 31 degrees Celsius,
while in the UK this temperature is around 13 degrees.

INTERVIEWER
What would you say to someone who plans to live abroad?
